i think it was maybe in a afghan book? Help

This is the closest pattern I can get for you (scroll down for link). You could consider changing the border for a closer look.

From what I understand, the pattern you seek Irish Rose Potholder was made by Ann Cabot and first published in 1948 in the Pittsburgh Press. I too have sought the original for many years but, to no avail. Maybe someday- sigh.
