Stocking Stuffer Swap--Stuffing Our Stockings

75 posts in this topic

:ctree It’s beginning to look a lot like holiday time! Swap a stocking filled with holiday cheer and get a start on the holiday season with us at Crochetville. :menorah

General Swap Requirements: Each swapper is required to send one holiday stocking (either crocheted or store bought) filled with a maximum of $10 of holiday goodies. The goodies can be either crocheted ornaments, holiday candy, yarn—whatever your partner wants, but please mind the maximum. You can make or buy a small- or regular-sized stocking, and spend more on the stuffing if you like. P.S. Holiday yarn is on sale now, so a stocking can be made for cheap!

If stockings are not part of the holiday you celebrate—never fear! Your partner can use another inexpensive container that is suitable to your celebration of choice; just please provide some direction in your survey (e.g., a blue box for Hanukkah).

And per previous Stocking Stuffer swaps: items you destash from your own supply of yarn or holiday items don't count in the $10 maximum for this swap. So go stash diving! Be creative!

Swap Dates: This swap starts 1 NOVEMBER 2013 and ends 16 DECEMBER 2013. All packages must be received by the ending date, so the mailing deadline for this exchange is 9 DECEMBER 2013. All packages MUST be in the mail by 9 DECEMBER 2013 (mailing deadline). December 9 is a Monday.

Remember: Crochetville admin limits Villagers to two swaps at one time. If you are already signed up for two swaps, one must be completed before the Stocking Stuffer Swap starts for you to be eligible to swap. See the Swap Guidelines. A swap will count as completed if you have mailed your final package and delivery confirmation information shows your package has been received OR your swap partner has posted a thank-you in the swap thread.

GUIDELINES:

Here are the rules. Please read them thoroughly before signing up.

1. Please submit a survey if you want to participate in this exchange. (See second post for Survey information.) Surveys should be emailed to the swap coordinator, DesertCrocheter, at patrysia_520 AT msn DOT com. You will receive a confirmation email when your survey is received, and your username will be added to the list of swappers posted below. Surveys can be submitted until noon Eastern zone DST (New York City) on 31 October 2013. N.B.: Please do not send your survey as attachment--attached surveys always make my msn account freeze! Please cut and paste the survey in the body of your message.

2. It is not required that you answer all the questions on the survey (except for name, address, and Crochetville nickname), but it is a good way for your partner to know your other preferences: favorite color, allergies, etc. If you have been in a recent swap, you may want to let the hostess know who your swap partner was, so you are not accidentally teamed again (this has happened).

3. By submitting a swap survey, you agree to follow all Swap Guidelines and general forum guidelines. Please note—there is now a new requirement re: digital patterns.

4. Partner assignments will be e-mailed to you on 1 November 2013. Packages must be POSTMARKED BY 7 December 2013. **Proof of shipping is required whenever it is available (see Swap Guidelines for details), and the delivery confirmation number must be emailed or PM'd to the swap coordinator.** All packages should be received by the end of the swap on 15 December 2013.

5. E-mail the coordinator, DesertCrocheter at patrysia_520 AT msn DOT com, when you receive your partner information at the start of the swap, and when you send and receive your exchange item(s) so that she can keep record of who sent and received. Do not PM her through Crochetville. This is in addition to posting to the swap thread that you mailed or received your assigned partner and your packages. Lots of messages are posted to the swap thread daily. Please don’t make the swap coordinator go through all those messages to see if you sent/received your package!!! Remember, these emails are now required of all Crochetville swappers. Failure to do so will result in the accumulation of reputation points.

6. Please thank your partner for their thoughtfulness when you receive your package. It will make his or her day. **Thank-you’s MUST be posted on the swap thread, but you can post links to your blog for photos, etc., if you choose. Thank-you’s are REQUIRED!!**Please also thank your partner personally with a private email, as well as a post to the swap thread. The private thank-you lets your partner know that their package has been received, and the public thank-you lets the other swappers know what you received and adds to everyone’s enjoyment of the exchange. Both public and private thank-you’s are required.

7. Make sure your postage and receiver's address are correct before mailing. Mark your package with Crochetville Stocking Stuffer Swap. Do not forget that delivery confirmation (or other proof of shipping) is required whenever it is available, and the delivery confirmation must be emailed to the swap coordinator. This provides proof of mailing in case your package is lost during transit.

8. If you have a problem with your partner or an item you receive, please DO NOT post complaints to the swap board. Please PM or email the swap coordinator privately.

9. If your package is not postmarked by the Mailing Deadline of 9 December 2013, you will be subject to the consequences listed in theSwap Guidelines. Please contact the swap coordinator BEFORE the mailing deadline passes if there is a problem.

10. Since we are an international group, everyone is more than welcome to participate. That means that your exchange partner may live across the world and packages may take longer to arrive and cost more to ship. Keep this in mind when mailing items.

11. Most importantly, have fun! Happy Swapping!!

PRIVACY INFORMATION:

The information you provide on your survey is provided to assigned swap partners. Information may also be provided to the Swap Coordinator Leader (DesertCrocheter) and Crochetville administration (AmyS and Donna) for the purposes of swap coordination only. With prior permission, survey information may also be shared with members sending “Angel” replacement packages, if necessary.

IMPORTANT DATES:

October 31: survey deadline
December 9: mailing deadline
December 16: end of swap

FINAL REMINDERS!!! SWAPPER RESPONSIBILITIES:[/font]

  • Email Patty when you get your partner assignment (posting in thread isn’t sufficient)

Can you believe it's already time to start thinking about the holidays? Sure, Christmas decorations have been for sale in some stores since August, but I refuse to look at them until after Halloween.  :lol  And November just snuck up on me this year. Argh, where is the time going? Maybe because it's still almost 90 degrees here; it sure doesn't feel like holiday time yet. But this swap will get me in the mood for sure!

Sorry for the short sign-up time, everyone, but that just means less time sitting around, twiddling your thumbs, waiting to hear who your partner is, right?

So join us in this fun, creative, budget-friendly swap!

I think I can honestly say, for all the previous Stocking Stuffer swappers, that this is one of the most fun swaps we offer. In the past, everyone has had a great time thinking creatively to stuff their stockings as much as possible and stay within the budget. I admit when I do this, I go shopping while waiting for my partner assignment to arrive so I have stuff already in my stash. :P

But let me give everyone a heads up. My laptop has been very, very slow the past week or so, and as I telecommute frequently, it's going to our computer department at work for a 48-hour diagnostic this afternoon. That means I won't have any Internet access until Monday afternoon, the 28th. So if you sign up and don't get a confirmation email back from me, don't panic. We have to make sure my laptop didn't get infected because that could infect the whole company. And that would be bad. :(

I am definitely joining this one! :clap   I'll get my survey out to you, Desertcrocheter, right away before I forget.

Hopefully more members will join because this one is great for getting into the Holiday cheer. I just hope we don't have any bad storms hit next Friday like the one we had last year. :(

Hey, all, I've pm'd smokeyp81 to let her know I'll wait on her survey, because we have an odd number of swappers and this way we don't have to do a round robin. I hope ya'll don't mind waiting. We will, of course, extend the swap by a day if she doesn't get this message right away. Anyone mind?

I would have loved to join this swap, but being unemployed made that almost impossible this year.  I just love the Stocking Stuffer swap - so much fun figuring out just how far I could stretch that $10 and I had so many ideas for this year - just going to file them away for next year.  I also love the Holiday Gift Exchange and can't participate in that one this year either.  I am putting in a Holiday Wish List, but even that is dead this year - been up since yesterday and so far no one has signed up - I am on my way there now to put in my list.

Crochetville seems very quiet since the switch.  I know I don't come here as often as I used to - find it very difficult to navigate around and most of the threads I like are just not active anymore.  I am working around and learning more about the new system, but still, lots of the regulars aren't here anymore.

I will be watching this swap to see all the fun you guys are having and what goodies you come up with.

Happy Holidays!

Assignments are out! Special thanks to Smokeyp81 for getting her survey in ASAP.

This is going to be a great swap! I've swapped with just about all of you, and ya'll are great--creative, fun, and completely intuitive re: what extras your partner might like.

I hope everyone had time to run out and stock up, because now the rule is in effect-- you can only spend $10 now on your partner (or for skoggy, the equivalent in British pounds, or do you use Euros?), but anything in your stash or house is fair game!  So look around, with your inventive, creative mind. Decorations can be whipped up with just a smidgen of yarn and your hook, or a little glue gun action and some ribbon.

I can't wait to see what ya'll come up with!

Don't worry, Briana, the Stocking Stuffer Swap will be back next year. We all go through cycles of when swaps are more affordable and when they're not, and hopefully 2014 will bring you a job and ease your worries. In fact, I'm putting the 2014 swap list together as I write this, and I'm trying to include some different budget ones so we have a nice variety of swaps. And while the system is a little different (I can never remember how to use the calendar), the growing pains will subside and people will feel more comfortable once again.

We still use £ in the UK at the moment. And, at the moment, its £6.50 to $10. They keep trying to make us go to the Euro but "Hell No! We won't GO!" :lol:D

Yep, been doing a wee bit of shopping today. I'm already enjoying this swap and it only offically started today. :)

Hello my lovely Tiffer! Its great to be partnered with you. :hug

:cheer Hi Becky!  We're partnered up so now I can concentrate on what holiday stuffers would be perfect for you.  $10 isn't a lot but I'm sure I can come up with something. :D

Hi everyone!  Sorry I've been MIA for a bit....work has been crazzzzzzzy!  Thanks for letting me in on this swap....it is my favorite!

Hey Kidge...just a little tease.....I have your stocking made!  I'm off shopping to the "big" city (Syracuse, NY) on Wednesday with my sister....Syracuse is about 1 1/2 hours from me, but they have a much larger selection of stores than where I usually shop.  We make a day of it and have such fun!  Will be looking to spend the $10 then!

All right, who will admit to stash diving for this swap so far? Amazing, Heather, that your stocking is already made--you are one fast crocheter! I've been avoiding all the holiday magazines that have started arriving, but finally gave in yesterday and started reading one. I don't want to peak in holiday mood too soon! :P

I found my stocking pattern and have started but no where close to finished maybe this weekend.

I am definitely diving into my stash... since I am using stash yarn I have the full 10.00 for treats :)  Plus I have a huge stock pile to choose from

Really looking forward to spoiling Heather!

Wow, everyone is working away! I also will use stash items, but I will be traveling and shopping today. I've already done some Christmas shopping as well, and I try to beat the Black Friday crowd. I used to do shopping on Black Friday but that was before everyone had the same idea. Now stores open on Thanksgiving and I find that ridiculous. I do not want to be stuck in lines with crazy people fighting over items.

I had lots of time on my hands last weekend, it's hunting season here and my husband is out all day long.  Plus, I had a pattern in mind for a long time that I wanted to make.  Used stash yarn so I have spent $0 so far!
