I have two that I like and they both look pretty.

One is alternating rows of single crochet and crossed double crochets (multiple of 2).

The other one is alternating rows of double crochets and double crochet/slip stitch.  The double crochet/slip stitch makes little bobbles.  This one is also a multiple of 2

I love the Box Stitch whether it is Corner To Corner Diagonal-Box Stitch or Straight Box Stitch (also know as Crazy Stitch and Brick Stitch). The color choices are almost endless and very fast to work up, especially the straight box stitch style. I made one in 3 days.

This link  will direct you to one I made for my grt-grand daughter and showed here on the "Ville (scroll down to striped blanket). The size is 36" square.

Thank you, Nancy and Reni, for these suggestions.  I love both of your posts and will follow your suggestions.  I love the responses to any crochet question that is asked on this Crochetville.  No other place like it!!
