What kind of stitch is this?

i think it is half double crochet into the "back bar" tutorial at the bottom of this page http://mrsmicawber.blogspot.com/2012/06/operation-marigold-hat-for-cause-with.html

but it could be just done into the back loop http://crochet.about.com/od/crochetterms/tp/back-loops-only-or-blo.htm

It almost looks like a fp hdc. 

 

You can play around with a few different stitches and see what you come up with.
