Has anyone worked on the Tree of Life Afghan recently?

I am currently making this afghan and find the pattern really easy to follow, however I seem to have some concerns and wondered if anyone has had the same experiences or am I doing something wrong and should start over.

 

1.  The FPDC/BPDC seem to create a curve in the row (making the row uneven) and wondered if this will straighten out in the end.

2.  Starting at row 18 the sides of the afghan seem to pull in although the number of stitches in the row remain the same.

 

I would appreciate any help.
