Vintage Turban Scarf

Hello! I bought this pattern for a Vintage Turban Scarf last night. I was super excited about it and wanted to start it right away, but I couldn't make any sense of the directions!

 

If anybody has used this pattern and was able to make it would you be willing to help me out? Maybe through email or something? I would really appreciate it a lot, thank you!

I haven't done or seen this pattern and since you bought it you can't share it here.  However, you can share the first line and I may be able to help you get started.

(assuming that's an OK free site, at that.) You're right, it's confusing. It's "work between" by the look of the diagram, but sorting it out will take a bit. It's a shame, because the pattern itself is cute.

Awww that's a bummer because I paid for it and here it is for free! Oh well, I still like it enough that it was worth the money

 

Would one of you maybe look at the pattern and see if you can figure it out? I'm still a bit confused.

The wording does look a bit confusing.  What part is tripping you up?  I'll give it a try a little later to see how it works out.

It's mostly the part at the beginning about making the slot, I don't know which sides are supposed to be open, and then when I do the two double crochets in each stitch after that it starts fanning out really huge and looking weird.

What size  yarn and hook are you using?

I was using a 5mm hook and Vanna's Choice yarn

That's probably why it's fanning out so much for you.  The pattern uses 2 ply yarn, which is a thinner yarn like a fingering weight and VC is a worsted weight, whcih is much thicker.

Fingering is 4 ply, 2 ply is lace weight.  Notice the hook is size 00, which is steel hook (doily size) territory.

I wasn't sure so just googled it and that's what I found for relation of the ply to the weight for US.

 

But either way, using the bigger hook and yarn will surely enlarge the final product so you'll just have to make adjustments to prevent such a large fanning out.  But, it definitely should fan out, so I'm guessing you're following the pattern correctly.
