a skein of sock yarn is just right for making a scarf or shawlette.  I recently used a couple of patterns that i would recommend: Plumeria Frill http://www.crochetville.com/community/topic/144306-my-frill/

Maxine http://www.crochetville.com/community/topic/137035-my-version-of-maxine/ (i did have to do some figuring on where to end the body of the shawl to make the stitch count correct for the border pattern, but it wasn't too difficult).

I was going to suggest the same thing as EBB but with only 435 yds there aren't many options, so I searched fingering weight (which is what the Shepherd Sock is) and came up with 15 pages...

Ive never used sock yarn, so don't know it's thickness, or lack there of, but I was wondering, could you use two strands together maybe and make a hat, or something??
