Finished this yesterday. Here is my blog post about my trials and tribulations with the square (I found it necessary to use a smaller hook for the Santa head to get a look similar to the example in the book, 101 Crochet Squares, but I learned that only after making the first head with the same size hook I had used for the square itself), and here is the square:
