Yes, that IS confusing! Does it give any instructions for "special stitches"? If not, I think they've left something out. Can you send us a link to the pattern?

Thanks very much for your reply and offer of help: the pattern begins as follows:

BORDER (worked sideways)

Make 15ch

Foundation Row (rs) (2tr,1ch,2tr) into 5th chain from hook, 7ch, miss7 ch, (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) into last ch, turn.

Next Row: 2ch (2ch counts as 1tr,) (2tr,1ch,2tr) into next 1ch sp, 4ch, 1dc around 7ch from foundation row and 7ch of base, turn 2ch, 1tr, turn, 2ch, 1tr into each of next 5tr, (2tr, 1ch, 2tr) into next 1ch sp, 1tr into last tr turn.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Ok, here goes--if I can explain it clearly! Every time it tells you to do 1dc around 7th chain from foundation row--it means to make 1 dc in the space created by the 7 chains. The same applies to the 7ch of base, meaning into the loop made by the 7 chains.

If this doesn't make sense, let us know and maybe someone else can describe it better. I think it is poorly written, and hard to understand!

There is a 7CH loop on the foundation row and you also SKed 7CH on the foundation CH so you are actually working a DC which goes over both of these CH loops.

Forms a sort of tuck stitch.

Remember too, this is a pattern using UK stitches so if you are in the US, use DCs where it says TRs and SCs where it says DCs.

Hope this helps.

Have fun.
