Merino-Possum yarn?

Recommended Posts

My niece just returned from New Zealand, and when she was out there, she found yarn that was made from Merino (sheep) and possum. They seem to have a real problem with the possums out there, and when they kill them, they take their fur and use it in yarn.

She said the yarn was soft, and very warm feeling, but she wasn't going to buy any. The thought kind of grossed her out. And it was very expensive.

So has anyone seen this yarn? Has anyone used it?

My questions would be would it get really fuzzy? Would it get "Hairy" looking?

Any answers would be appreciated.

Waikiwi is a brand name and it supports the purchase of the Merino Possum yarn for making socks.

Also there is a place on etsy that sells the yarn, perhaps you could contact that person for more info on the yarn, the pictures don't appear hairy....
