Granny squares 2nd annual Happy Birthday Friendship/Comfortghan

Recommended Posts

My goodness, you guys can talk a lot! :lol I'm missing for a day and bang, a ton of posts!  Well here goes with trying to catch up...

attachicon.gif100_3285.jpg

Well, officially out of my dry period, dreamed of a project last  night, and have been busy planning it out, and making sample squares for it!! I am going to do a rainbow bright friendship ghan, which means,,,,, bright shades of the colors of the rainbow, or if you aren't sure, they are red, orange, green, yellow, purple, and blue!  I am going to make at least 20 6 color grannys', in 8 inches, and since I won't ask you all to do all those color changes, and ends, lol I am going back on the board, for 8 inch solids, in bright colors as stated above! Woo hoo, Im excited again, I made a few already of the 6 color ones, there are no bad orders to put them in, they all look good anyway you do them, lol, I will post a pic, but again, not asking anyone to do all those color changes and ends, so will put my preferences down as solids in those bright shades above..... So...... I stand before you,  renewed, refreshed, relieved, and re-cooped, and back to the hook I go! I will add my preferences to the list shortly, and until we meet again....................he he he! My camera hates light purple, and orange, but they all three have all six colors in there, trust me! lol

Fantastic!  I love the colors you've chosen too! :clap

I got it!!  Thank you very much.  I'll have to add it to my signature line, but I estimate that now I need 14 6-inch squares and one 3-inch square.  Yay!  Here's a pic of the three squares that smith sent.  I love them!  This is going to be one joyful afghan :)

Very pretty!

Hi Everyone, hope all are doing well.  Hoping everyone buried in this snowstorm is warm and safe.  We are looking at a lot of rain on Tuesday but I'd rather have that then snow.   I spent the day at the hospital for all of my pre-admission testing for my upcoming surgery, so that is out of the way.  Tomorrow I go to my regular doctor for her clearance, then Wednesday I have to go to the dentist and get her clearance.  I am really getting tired of being poked and x-rayed.   Oh well, I know it's for my safety.   I did get quite a few squares done now hopefully I can get some mailed out.  I found a 6 inch pattern I thought was really cute so I got a little carried away with them. LOL  Now I need an 8 inch pattern that I really like.  I have quite a few but just looking for something different.

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers :hug

I see a light!  The tunnel wasn't so long after all.  I love the colors you've chosen for your new 'ghan.  I'm in!  Now, I've been trying my best to get squares finished and mailed out, but these last couple of weeks, after a horrible dry work spell, I'm working and it's all being expedited.  So when I think I finally have time to relax and crochet, I am pulled back in.   :lol

I just found out from my SIL that a neighbor in the townhouse three doors down had a break-in today, in broad daylight, while he was at the gym.  He was only gone 1.5 hours, and someone managed to jimmy the garage door and then the inside door.  When I was driving down the long driveway, I was thinking how lucky we are to have a security gate compared to most of the other multi-family buildings around here.  Apparently that's not good enough.  I had just added a renter's insurance policy with AAA, but I hope I never have to use it.  I'm afraid someone will break in when my SIL and little niece are alone.  We'll have to see about a proper alarm system now.  Scary!

It's so scary, isn't it!  One of my neighbors told us last week that he was broken into and yes, it was during the day!  He even has 2 big dogs and they managed to lock them up in another room while they roamed the house.  We live in a very small rural town.  Everyone leaves their doors unlocked, etc.  Needless to say our doors are locked all the time now!

Okay I don't check in here for 24 hours and I have over two pages to look through! And I don't have time to look at them all!

Hugs to everyone, whether you are sick, getting snow, not getting snow, having tests, going to have surgery, moving, worried about your kids, going through your pregnancy.....whew! Makes me feel lucky to just have my DD to deal with!

We are expecting up to 6 inches of snow tomorrow, thick wet and heavy. I'm hoping they are wrong! But if it comes, DD is sooooo happy and hoping for the school to close. Uh, sorry hon not with just 6 inches!

I have a friend who is going to a specialist and may need surgery soon. If you have extra time, please say a quick prayer for her or at least send good thoughts! Thanks!

I need to pull out squares I've already made and match them up to some of you. Then I'll get addresses and get to sending. I know I want to send a few to skoggy soon!

Take care and have a happy and safe nite!

kuddles

Hiya kuddles!  Saying prayers for your friend...

Aww you're a sweetie kuddles :hug

I'm going to send some to you too, with your revised requirements, with my DDK (Double DK). :lol

Today has been the 2nd day of Felicia on no meds. She's fantastic. Still not totally 100% her bouncy, singing, dancing self but its coming back gradually. Thank you to everyone who has had her in their thoughts. :hug

Still no news on the house. Getting annoying now. Just want an answer. Grrr...

And thanks to all who have liked my FB page. Big :hug to you all.

So good to hear that Felicia is doing better.  Will keep the prayers going for the housing situation... :hug

ok, forgot to add I mailed out Skoggy's and Angelroselights, and one package to our soon to be new queen, and her name is..........................oh, not the first yet, ha ha, gotta wait!!     Little clue though, SHE LIKES SQUARES!

:devil  :devil  :devil  :devil

Hi lacey, feeling Better??

Oh, so not nice! :lol

Whew, there, I think I did it!  Have a wonderful day everyone.  Stay warm, stay dry, and stay out of trouble! :lol  :hook

Wahhh! I've been crochet-bugged the last few days - almost finished powering through the pattern section on one for kuddles, almost to the free-form bit (have to get out to that 12", after all). Came up with a fun-seeming design I want to try for Skoggy's chocolate-ghan. Working on a pattern redesign and picked up yarn for a new design. And yesterday the dog LEASH-BURNED MY HAND!

Ripped it right out of my hand so she could run 100 yards to bark at the trainer's dog (fortunately, she got her dog in the truck and grabbed Lottie while I hauled myself off the ground and ran to catch up). Mostly just stung yesterday, and I was cheerfully hooking away last night, but the big scrape/welt on my palm had a chance to stiffen up while I slept and now it HURRRRRRRTS to try to close my hand at all. I think crocheting is out for a few days.  :cry  Rasser-frassin' dog.  :angry

So tired of shoveling snow but so happy our electricity is back on.  It was off for 23 hours and all I could do was remember how hard it was the long week without it after our ice storm in 2001.

Good! We had to postpone our son's first birthday party due to a power outage - lost power Friday and didn't get it back until Monday. We lost it for a day or two in this year's storm, as well. It is definitely nerve-wracking to be without power! (Though I did find the absolutely silent house - no appliances running, etc - oddly calming at night. I proposed turning off the power deliberately for a day or so every now and then just to enjoy the quiet!)

My day got even better after I got home! First my amigurumi design book was in my mailbox, which I was literally singing about. THEN....

I opened the front door and the dog greeted me at the door, instead of from her crate where she was supposed to be. And her crate was full of diarrhea! Like "take it outside and hose it down instead of messing about with paper towels" full! And the hose was in the shed, behind some other boxes! FUN! My husband gave her a pork bone from our dinner last night and I think that may have been the cause... The vet wants me to bring her in so they can check her out, so I'm doing that soon.

On the plus side, I can close my left hand a little easier now? The welts look worse than they feel at this point, and I've washed the bad scrape about a billion times since coming home (and wore gloves during cleanup, as well!)  Thanks for the well-wishes, everyone! Now it's off to the vet with a poor sad puppy dog...!

Bgs, i hear you! Ours was out for 20. I hope you were able to keep warm throughout it! We managed, and were the only people in our area (aside from those with generators) that had hot coffee. :) it was kind of funny...oddly enough.

Sissy, glad to hear youre doing better!

Hope all are well, warm, with power, and yarn and hooks! :hug s for all!

Got all my squares sewn together!! My 'ghan is getting closer :)  You have to excuse the green at the bottom of the picture.. My belly would NOT get out of the picture! The 'ghan will go across my bed - not up & down like it is now - that is just how I positioned it real quick to do the pic.

We don't have a generator but are better off than most because our house is a partial earth contact so it stays warmer and we also have a wood stove that we use anyway when it is really cold out.  The car and our stairwell work really well as a refrigerator.  I keep candles, flashlights and batteries on hand.  We also have some oil lamps but mostly rely on our Coleman lantern.  I am also glad we still have a landline as the cell phones were not getting a signal.  I think the worst thing is the waiting and wondering when the power will be back on.  We are always ecstatic to see the REC truck go up the road because that usually means it won't be long.

You're so lucky to have a partial earth home and wood burning stove! We almost decided to use the porch for a fridge, had decided that if the power wasnt back on by the time my dr appts were over that we would. We have a supply of candles, flashlites and batteries too. We refuse to not have them.  :D  We were talking about getting a small generator, and I'm thinking about a lantern and maybe a little heater thing too. We need to get an emergency phone as well, none of us had reception either. The waiting was horrible for us too. What I did, because everyone finally went to bed, was I sat up and crocheted until I literally passed out around 6 something this morning. Then was up about 2 hours later for my appts. :lol Again, happy to hear you're OK too.  :)

I didn't have a chance to check in yesterday so I am catching up today.

I received two beautiful squares yesterday, Thank You Linda!

I need to know from cshort if this teal will work with her fall colors...it's not 8" yet but the size will be determined by who gets it!

Edit: the light is terrible, but I just want to know if teal counts as a fall color for you.

I like it! I have some other squares with blues in them so I think it will be fine. Thank you.

I'm glad you and everyone else has the electricity back on and are safe.

Today is going to be another busy day but hopefully I will get to check in again this evening and also do a little crocheting.

Have a great day everyone!

Ok, finally found my misplaced list of the addresses I have, sorry, seemed it was always somewhere I wasnt at the time, so made a duplicate to keep by the computer, as well as the original that should be in my craft room, but sometimes ends up in my car, desk, top of the microwave, where ever it gets to at times, lol....

I am getting excited to reveaL the next Queen Of Yarn Hill, and Biggest Square for MARCH!!! probably will do that late this evening, so keep an eye on the board!!

Take this opportunity as well, to thank our reigning Biggest Square Queen, Cshort, whom has led a prosperous and pleasant reign for Feb! I hope to get her to give us an official count when all squares are in and counted, and Im sure she won't mind a few late ones, so don't feel bad, if you havne't mailed yet, she won't mind, I can almost promise that!!    Thanks Carol for being Feb. Biggest Square, sure hope you get enough to finish that ghan, let us know the count, and how many more you may need, when you can, no rush, I know lots to do passing the crown and such, ha ha....Thanks again Carol, and enjoy your last day of Squaredom!!! .

I do put them together as I go - When I get enough for another row, I'll put them together!! I would end up losing them if I didn't put them together LOL.. I have only the rows sewn together - and the columns only on the ones where there are 12" squares - and then only down to where the 12" ones are. I'll do the columns when I get enough for the entire 'ghan :)
