Where to find....

I want to make the Sweetheart Wristwarmers in the January issue of Mollie Makes. A young friend of mine likes them very much so I though I'd try to make them. But they call for No. 50 Crochet thread. I really don't want to go much larger than No. 30. Does anyone know a good source for either?

Thanks!

This is a good site for thread interpretations....http://www.crochetmemories.com/crochet1.php

size 30 thread is considered "extra fine". I would compare it to being closer to a heavy sewing thread.

Also would depend on how big you want the finished product. Using a larger than recommended thread size will give you a larger item. If you are using larger thread and want to keep same size, you will have to play with a smaller hook and that doesn't always work....:think, so you would need to check the gauge...

Here is a chart on thread sizes and the appropriate hook to use http://crochet.about.com/library/blthreadhook.htm

Aunt Lydia's and Coats and Clark both make these smaller sizes. Joann's sells them, as does many on line sites.

As for the pattern...it is on Ravelry http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sweetheart-wrist-warmers-2 for anyone to view or buy...

this pattern as far as I can find is only available if you buy the magazine it is in. So I am going to have to go by pictures of finished item and there is a picture of that ontop of the magazine pattern which will give me a few clues. Plus I need to make them smaller anyhow for this is for a little girl. So I may try 20 or 30 and see how I go.

Becky is right. Thread sizes are the opposite of the way we think. Size 50 is smaller than size 30, which is smaller than size 10. If you use size 30, your item will turn out larger than the pattern indicates.

A nice on-line place for thread is Handy Hands.

Yes I have been aware of the sizing of crochet thread being smaller the larger the number and how the larger the thread the larger the project will turn out. I didn't say enough in my last reply, I have to adjust this pattern to fit a little girl so I have to make it smaller, with less stitches as it is so I might as well try it with any of these size threads since I won't be going exactly to pattern anyhow.
