Working on teacher gifts

LanetteG

Question

I'm working on scarves for my daughter's kindergarten teacher and her aides. I made her teacher's from some white TLC and pale blue and green SAmba(it's eyelash with these chenelle 'chunks' in it) very wintery, snowflakey. I got some dark country blue and some varigated Caron so soft for one of the others and finally decided on doing a granny stripe with the two colors.:ideanot What do you think of doing fringe down the long side of the scarf, at the point where the color changes each time? Would it just look stupid? I've seen them in stores where the put fringe down both long sides, but I'm just trying to make each scarf unique so the don't think one is better than the other. I realize they probably won't think that, but I'm just weird like that.:shrug

Your scarves sound like they will be very pretty - the color combos and types of yarn. I've never seen a scarf with fringe on the long ends so I can't comment. I'm sure they'll love them and that is a nice thing for you to do - not just the "usual" teacher gift! Dar

Wow!! I wish I were you daughter's teacher! :wink

Hmmmm. :thinking1 Fringe down the long side, I guess it would work. I am not really a fan of fringe, so if it were me, I wouldn't. But, I do see what you mean about the color changes. Hmmmm. :thinking1 I simply don't know.

Your scarves sound beautiful. Sorry I am not much help. :blush

I haven't seen those types of scarves, but I don't go to stores very often lol. How about a short fringe on the long sides? I don't know if it'd work or not, never tried it myself, but it's a thought. Course, I just woke up and am waiting for :coffee so you might not want to pay attention to me lol

I saw a Carol Duvall rerun a couple mornings ago, they were doing some sort of bleaching to a knitted scarf. Anyway, it had fringe along the length on one side, and when Carol put it on it looked really dressy and nice. She had on a ladies suit jacket and it slipped under the jacket collar. It was nice, I wasn't sure that I would like it as it laid out on the table - the fringe I mean - but it looked really nice once she had it on.

mmouseplus.gifThe scarf on Carol Duvall's show must be made from cotton. Acrylic won't bleach and we won't even talk about what it'll do to wool. :sheep

That is such a neat idea though. I've done that with regular fabric to create a design on a print. It was beautiful and I got lots of compliments on the dress.

I've finished up a couple of projects and have pics on my blog. The scarf is for a crossing guard that makes ED and I smile every morning as we drive past. Kind of a RAOK, I guess. I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Varigated yarns can be such a surprise!

OMgosh, I luv Carol!! I didnt see that particular show, but I did see her once, she made a scarf, that you make 1/3 of the size you want it, then streeeeeeeeeeeeeeetch it out & it stays! It was some fancy schmancy stitch she used.. lol

Here's the link to it.. www.hgtv.com/hgtv/cr_need...59,00.html

I've seen some scarves in stores that had short twisted fringe on one long side of 'em, & it lQQk'd kinda kewl!

The one's I've seen in the stores with the fringe down the length have mostly been in the girls or juniors dept, so i didn't want it to look too young. But with the darker colors I'm using I was hoping it would look a little dressier or more sophisticated. I have more done today and I'm really startin gto like it, so I think I'll go with it.

Thanks!

Happy Thanksgiving!:t-talk

I found this knitting pattern for a scarf with the fringe on the long side while checking out someone else's hat project.

Berroco free pattern

I'd never seen a scarf like that before. I kinda like the way it looks wrapped around the neck.

There it is on my beautiful but grumpy model. It way too big of course and I haven't steamed it yet but I really like it so far.
