Overlay square, unearthed!

I have been getting ready for guests, and as part of that I have had to deal with several yarn/crochet dump sites in my guestroom.

 

I began work on this ages ago after I took Melody MacDuffee's overlay crochet course. Here is a link to my blog post which includes a link to the scribd page that has ordering information for Melody's course on this technique (the materials are an excellent introduction to this technique).

 

I no longer remember just what I did to make this, so I am going to weave in the ends, call it day for this swatch, and consider doing something for this year's state fair using the technique.
