slightly confused about weghts...

I recently bought 10 skeins of black cygnet dk yarn, but i've realised that when i use it, everything comes out smaller than other dk wool i have, like bonus dk. I know weights can be different in the US and UK, but isnt dk the same worldwide?

the weight of the yarn can vary within the weight category. We have Caron Simply Soft which is a 4 weight, but it can be used for a heavy 3 weight because it is so light. Often if using it as a 4 weight the hook size may need to be increased.

When asking in my local yarn shop up in Newcastle, I was told that DK comes in 2 sizes (sort of) and is the equivilent to light Worsted in US. Aran is the equivilent to medium Worsted. As with any kind of yarn, you need to check the gauges and hooks are correct if you are following a pattern. If the gauge is too small then ofcourse your item will come out smaller. Yarns do vary even in their "category".

I use Cygnet DK and it crochets like King Cole Pricewize DK. It seems to be the same thickness when on the ball when when stretched slightly it goes thin.
