cones of thread

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for an on-line source of cones or large balls of 20 and 30 crochet cotton. I've done a few searches but not finding anything. oh, and paying by PayPal would be a great addition.

Thanks in advance.

hm, you're right. it's bookmarked properly on the lap-top, which is in the shop...and it's been months since my last order...do you know how much thread you get in 5 pounds?! (all cotton, soft...I'm using this in wearables...)Sorry. I'll try to track it down, and repost if I do find it.

I'm making a wedding dress for Barbie that calls for 4000 yards. Here's info I collected before I started. I'm sure some of it is a bit dated.

--Walmart for Red Heart Class on cones for $3.47

--Herschnerrs Deluxe 4-Ply Bedspread Cotton Thread Cone, Size 10. $16.99 MN080063 all firmly twisted and mercerized.

--Mary Maxim 1 lb. Crochet Cotton Item No. 3139 Mary Maxim Crochet Cotton is 100% cotton on 2-ply mercerized sportweight crochet cotton on 1 lb. cones

--Handy Hands Tatting DMC Traditions Thread Snow White

A 3-cord thread. Imported Size 10 = 350 yards colors. White and Ivory has 400 yards.

($ 2.69)

MaryPat, a doll dress that uses 4000 yards! Wow that is going to be really ornate!:hook

Woodland Woolworks has gone out of business. http://woodland-woolworks.blogspot.com/

Other places online to look for weaving thread include Halcyon http://halcyonyarn.com/yarn_weight.html

They give the Wraps Per Inch, and you can check the WPI of thread you already have to find something similar http://www.woolfestival.com/articles/wpi.htm

Also they sell sample cards of all their yarns which is very heplful.

Yarn Barn of Kansas also does sample cards, and i am sure there are others, in addition to local weaving shops where one can see the threads in person.

:)

Ornate it will be. I've been working on it for over a year. I'm about 75% done because I've used about 3 cones (3000 yards). I work on it while waiting for GD's karate class.

There's 9 rows of ruffles and I've calculated each row takes about 30 hours to do.

Kathy, that would explain why I couldn't find them! thanks. and thank you for the links to other weaving thread sites (and I've crocheted with my "woolworks" thread, and it crochets beautifully, for those who are wondering about weaving thread cones...the one I bought isn't as glossy or finished as, say, cebilia, but for my purposes it works quite well.)
