Knit and Crochet Exhibit

Knit 1, Chain 1 – and exhibit of contemporary and vintage knit and crochet lace is open now through June 23 at The Lace Museum in Sunnyvale, California (see www.thelacemuseum.org for details and The Lace Museum Facebook page for photos).

This exhibit showcases lace made using only knit and crochet techniques, many made with very fine threads, but others using everyday threads, but the way the hook or needle is used creates lovely or whimsical lace. The range is from silly to elegant! Contemporary pieces and vintage pieces are included in the show.

Variations include Irish Crochet, Orenburg knitting, Hairpin Lace, Rick-Rack Lace, Filet Crochet, and more. An Irish Crochet gown from the Edwardian era, an Orenburg shawl, knit lace doilies, knit doll clothes, a lace knit sampler, a hairpin lace cocktail dress from mid-century and a fabulous Irish Crochet doll dress will be on display. An exquisite 3-dimensional Irish Crochet bedspread with botanically correct flowers and doves is a must see! Many other treasures from the collection including reticules, household items, stockings, and accessories will be on display.

The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday 11 – 4. Admission is free for individuals – there is a small fee for groups of 6 or more. Please call ahead if you are bringing a group. The exhibit runs through June 23, 2012.
