Do be aware that double crochet makes a more flexible fabric than single crochet. Single crochet in rows also has a tendency to curl. Depending on what you are making, the substition may or may not give you the desired results.

I'm just wondering if two rows of single crochet is the same as one row of double crochet? I like the looks of the single better so would prefer to use it.

If you do not like the look of DCs, how about working a row of DCs and a Row of SCs.

This makes a very nice fabric.

Have fun.

PS, You would just need to adjust the nmber of rows you work to get the length

I often substitute 2 rows of Single Crochet for Double Crochet.....sometime I even substitute ESC = Extended Single crochet..... Here is a tutorial...

I also prefer to use sc because it makes a denser fabric, therefore it's not "see through" and the increasing and decreasing is smoother. Edging it is smoother too.
