Need help with a pattern

My3angels

Question

http://www.favecrafts.com/Crochet-Afghans/Spiral-Afghan-Crochet-Pattern-from-Caron-Yarn

I am trying to start this afghan, but can't even seem to understand the directions from the very beginning. I've seen where some of the comments show that some people have been able to complete the afghan, but some have indicated that they had some issues with the directions.

I'm not an advanced crocheter, but consider myself pretty proficient and have been crocheting for years. I really want to make this afghan for a friend of mine who has a beach house and thought it would be perfect for her.

I would appreciate any advice.

That's a nice afghan and I agree, perfect for a beach house - I've bookmarked it for later - Is there a specific issue you are having? I read through the directions (don't have a hook with me) and while it does look complicated and confusing initially, I think once you got through the first bit, it would flow.

Starting a multicolor spiral is not the easiest thing to do and some illustrations would really help!

there used to be a good tutorial by Kim Werker on CrochetMe showing how to do a three color spiral, but i absolutely cannot find it now.

Margaret Hubert covers a 4 color spiral in her book Complete Photo Guide to Crohcet, and there is an excerpt on this blog http://craftside.typepad.com/craftside/margaret_hubert/page/3/

(Margaret referenced this page on her own blog http://margaretshooksandneedles.blogspot.com/search?q=craftside )

Here is a post on Cville about a squared off spiral in 2 colors that might help http://www.crochetville.org/forum/showthread.php?t=99670&highlight=spiral

Hope these will help a little!

My link for that tutorial does not work anymore but in googling I think this is the same tutorial as I remember the colors that were used. Mary

Had too many projects going on so I haven't had a chance to try the spiral wave afghan again. I can't seem to picture how to start adding in the second color in the spiral motif in the first few rounds. I'm going to look at some of the links that you all have posted and see if I can wrap my brain around this pattern. I am definitely a visual and wish there were illustrations to wrap help see it.

Just watched the video and looked at the links and it makes sense now. I've never done the spiral design before where you drop colors in crochet and change colors that way. Got my my motivation back to try this pattern again. Thanks again.

I found this pattern of Ravelry and looking at some of the other projects people had made with this pattern, one of them put a link on how to do "the magic adjustable ring".

Not sure if I can do this right but the link for that page is: http://www.crochetme.com/forums/t/28917.aspx

I love this pattern :manyheart and am thinking about starting one of these for myself!
