Looking for Wedding Ideas

My boyfriend proposed on Christmas Eve and I'm in panic mode already over planning for the wedding. No date yet but I've been tossing around ideas about trying to incorporate crochet into the favors/wedding since it's such a huge part of my life.

 

Anyone have any ideas they can toss back to me?

Depending on how many people you're inviting you could do something similar to what we did for a recent wedding anniversary. For my Aunt and Uncles 40th wedding anniversary party, we took baby food jars and filled them with almonds. We covered them in little crocheted "cupcakes". You could make little pansy flowers in your wedding colors for the tops.

My friend made little coaster sized doilies in the wedding colors for her daughters wedding.

 

Do you want to do favors or your own stuff? There's patterns for garters and ring pillows and bridal bags and veils - all sorts of stuff.

You could always do the gift bags in thread or sock yarn. You can do little placeholder weights in crochet with little wedding cakes (the book Yummy Amigurumi [i think that's the right title] has a cake pattern) that use thread or cupcakes or presents. You can always crochet up your bouquet(s) and boutonnieres - they'd be a nice keepsake too since they won't die and be thrown away.

Hehehe Here's a fun suggestion: Crochet little amigurumi versions of yourself and the groom to go on top of the cake. (Silly suggestion I know but it popped into my head and I had to share).

Check craigslist. I've seen some on there around here from time to time. You could also check with local thrift stores. I just happen to have a cousin who has an infant, that's where we got all our bottles lol.

You can find baby jars on Ebay and probably Amazon. I thought those were awesome ideas as well. Maybe make a doily for the cake to sit on? And totally CONGRATS!!!

I've never had the occasion to make one, but I always thought it would be a great combination gift/wedding prop to make a nice doily, then sew a satin ring pillow, and tack the doily to the pillow with ribbons (in a way not to mess up the doily,by sewing the ribbons into the 'holey parts'). The doily could be bigger than the pillow and hang over it, would look fancy and old-timey. After the wedding, undo the ribbons and toss the pillow and you have a doily for your newlywed housekeeping.

I wish i had pictures of the centerpieces i made for my wedding 10 years ago...but what i did is this...crocheted doilies with 3d roses around th3e edge from a book my mom gave me called romancing the rose...then in a round vase/candle holder i call a fish bowl with ruffled top i put colored marbles from the floral department in my wedding colors then crocheted more roses in yarn tis time to use instead of candles. Then i made another thread rose and used it around the top of the vase with ribbon instead of a bow. More roses adorned the favors my aunt made...purple and white chocolate rose lollipops. I crocheted about 500 tiny thread roses that year but the final cost was $1 per centerpiece.

Good ideas here, all I can say is get started early on whatever itisyou decide and enlist the help of other crocheters in the family. My daughter had a winter wonderland wedding theme, we all crocheted white snow flakes for it. It was really fun. We supplied the crochet cotton and told them whatever size, whatever style, they wanted.
