Maegan's Christmas gift

Started to make my niece an afghan for Christmas that was black and grey, her favorite colors. She asked if they make bright color yarn and my husband told her that they did. So, I started over and this is what I came up with...

then I asked same niece if there was something small I could make for her boyfriend, like a hat or scarf? She called me back 10 minutes later and asked if I could make him an afghan. Even though I didn't want to, I said yes. Then she asked if I would make it black and grey and say "Metallica" on it so......

Wow, I love both of them! You did a beautiful job, I have a question. For the letters how did you do those? I am testing out a few different techniques like the slip stitch technique. Just curious. Thanks!

I graphed out the name and then crocheted the same stitches as the rest of the afghan, just changed color.
