That is amazing! Wow -- what an undertaking! I saved the pattern (had never seen it before -- thanks) but I am not sure I would have the courage to start on it. Definitively a pattern you have to work hard at paying attention to! You did such a beautiful job -- this will certainly be a family heirloom! You should enter it in a fair!

Having done some charted patterns myself, I cannot imagine how you kept all of the colors from getting tangled together! I'd love to watch someone work on a project like this someday as I must be doing things wrong to always get so tangled. ;)

I don't want to go on and on but I do want you to know this is one of the most amazing afghans I have seen accomplished!

Thanks for all your nice comments!

A really good place to find knitting graphed patterns is "intarsia" or "Fair Isle" knitting. They use graphs to make really intricate sweaters.

Also, any of the old patterns that say "graph style" knitting patterns, (like for cardigans especially). All of these can be used for tunisian crocheting as long as they have a graph chart. I'd stay away from the super intricate stuff though. That's what really causes your yarn colors to get all tangled up in back when you have to switch the colors in and out.

Just stick with big blocks of color. Like for the states, it's really not too difficult because you are only going row by row after all. So the most yarn strands you will have will be with the smaller states on the east coast. That's the side I started on and worked my way "westward". So the states kept getting bigger and it became easier to do.

That is soooo fantastic! I don't think I'd attempt such a project. It would take me years to finish it.
