Where can I buy mini skeins of yarn like these?

She is using yarn that is used for needlepoint it is what I use for my needlepoint. You can find it most places that sell needlepoint now I don't know if they make in other than wool but it may possible.

Yes, it does come in something other than wool... (or at least it used to...) :) A friend of mine gave me some yarn she had picked up at the Salvation Army store - in that little stash was a small skein like the ones in the picture... The label says "Bucilla Plastic Canvas Tapestry Yarn" 100% acrylic fiber... Hope this helps!!

Yes, those are needlepoint (often referred to as tapestry) wool. They would probably work out pretty expensive compared to balls of normal wool though, they are about 33p at the cheapest here in the UK. I used Anchor when I do needlepoint because they are antifade and moth treated.
