Looking for pattern from "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers"

Recommended Posts

First let me say I'm new to the site so hi everybody :) I've been looking online for a crochet pattern for Milly's black shawl she wears outside in the movie "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" but can't find anything. It looks like it may be some kind of picot but there's not enough shots to get a good look. There are so many pretty crocheted things in that movie! If anyone knew of a pattern for this I would be very happy!

Even a Google search turned up nothing. I don't know what the shawl looked like, but I bet you would be able to find one that looked similar just by looking through all of the shawls offered on Ravelry. Just go to their site http://www.ravelry.com/, click on PATTERNS in the top bar, then fill in shawl in the search box and choose crochet from the Personalize category. You will find 2,595 shawls to choose from!!! Surely, in all of those, you will find one that looks like Milly wore in the movie. :) Happy hunting!

Is it a half granny square?  I've seen the movie but don't remember shawl details.

There are patterns for half granny squares, the beauty of granny squares is that they are more of a recipe than a pattern, so you can just stop short or keep going to get the size you want.  Here are some free half-granny shawl patterns:

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/granny-fletchers-shawl

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/happy-go-lucky-shawlette  this one has a shell stitch edging

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/half-a-granny-square-shawl

https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/the-newsprint-shawl  I threw this in for a different color placement idea.

Basically, without reading the patterns they are all the pretty much the same.  They start at the center long side (top), and work around a center 'spine'  to form a V shape.  Not sure if the movie version had tassels, they are easy to add - be sure to make them long enough, they tend to want to come undone.  Remember if you want the tassel to be (example) 6", because it's made by cutting a strand, folding it in half and tying a knot, you should cut strands at least 13", to give room for the knot and for trimming even.
