Chicken Coasters

Recommended Posts

This is the first time I have created something! I did use some bits of ideas from other patterns but I hope this means I am maturing enough in my crocheting to soon make my own entirely new creation.

I used the wings and comb (the red part on the head) from this pattern http://us.mg5.mail.yahoo.com/dc/launch?.gx=1&.rand=0abdc404gdmlo and the feet from this pattern http://www.crochetville.org/forum/register.php?do=addmember (I have full permission from both people. Thanks moonglow and Cylinda Matthews! :manyheart).

Here is the pattern...

Chicken Coasters

Materials:

*Small amounts of yarn in body and wing color (white, brown, black, orange, red, tan, whatever), yellow or orange, red, and black

*Sewing thread in yellow or orange (to match the beak color)

*Crochet hook size G

*Tapestry needle

*Sewing needle

Body:

With body color, Ch 4, sl st in first ch to form a ring.

Round 1 (right side): Ch 3, 12 dc in ring. Join with sl st.

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in same stitch, 2 dc in next dc around. Join with sl st.

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in same stitch, (1 dc in next stitch, 2 dc in next stitch) around, 1 dc in last stitch. Join with sl st.

Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in same stitch, (1 dc in next 2 stitches, 2 dc in next stitch) around, 1 dc in last 2 stitches. Join with sl st.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Wings:

With body color and right side facing, join yarn to whichever dc on the body you want, (ch 7, sl st in same stitch) three times. Fasten off and weave in ends. For second wing, repeat process on opposite side of the chicken.

Comb:

With red, join yarn to top of body, (ch 4, sl st in same stitch) three times. Fasten off and secure ends.

Feet:

With orange or yellow and right side facing, join yarn to a dc at bottom of body; * ch 5, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in next ch, (ch 2, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in same ch on beg ch 5) twice, sl st in last 2 chs of beg ch 5, sl st in same st on body, * sl st in next dc on body; rep from * to * once. Fasten off and secure ends.

Beak:

With orange or yellow, ch 3, sc in second and third ch, ch 1 and turn. Work a sc dec in the two sc (insert hook into first st, draw up a loop, insert hook into second st, draw up a look, yo and draw through both loops). Fasten off.

Using sewing thread and needle, attach the beak to the center of the body or where ever you would like. I sewed the yarn ends under the beak to secure them.

Eyes:

With black yarn and a tapestry needle, stitch on the eyes where ever and however you like. Secure ends.

You now have a cute little chicken coaster! You may copy this pattern for personal use only. You can do whatever you like with the finished products except for sell them on etsy.com. Thank you and enjoy!
