What items sell best?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what things seem to sell the best on eBay and Etsy. I don't need to make a huge profit or anything, but I kind of need to fund my crocheting because I am staying home with my two-year-old right now. I noticed baby hats seem to have a lot of bids on eBay, but if anyone has other suggestions I would appreciate them, thanks!

I agree, Ive tried ebay in the uk with no luck either. A friend says that the people who look to buy handmade thing go to specialist sites like etsy and there is a smaller similiar one called folksy which is like the uk version. The fees for these places are lower than ebay fees too, I had to pay quite a bit to list stuff on ebay and none of it sold!! So that was a costly lesson lol. Are there any crafty shops nearby you that would sell your things for a small fee? I hope this helps, good luck.

Unfortunately, I live in a pretty dead area, lol. That was the only reason I was going to try eBay. I could go to the flea market but I would have to profit more than it costs to rent a space. I guess I'm resolved to getting a part time job to support my habit, lol!

Don't forget that anything under $400 is considered hobby income and you cannot deduct supplies. Anything over that is considered a business and you may need county or state licenses depending on where you live.

I suggest that you sell patterns via Ravelry. For a small seller who sells 20 patterns or less each month you don't pay any fees. It's a great place to start and see what works. With that said, for my own patterns I sell much better on Etsy, but there are fees then. If you want to stick with physical items, I would recommend doing small timely items, ie. Easter items, or trendy things. Try to not compete with the masses, pick something that you can do in a unique way and make sure that your version is the best option out there :) Good luck!
