Our House Part Two

Good morning. The sun is shining brightly here, but it's cold. Wow, do my windows ever need washing! Nothing like a little sun to show up your housekeeping deficiencies!

It was a very busy weekend for me. My nieces shower was nice. I'm astounded by what is considered a suitable shower gift these days. In my day you got stuff like towels, kitchen utensils, small appliances. Now they are getting $50 to $100 gifts.I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks these occasions are a bit over the top lately! I also had a really busy day at work yesterday, so all I really wanted to do when I got home was nothing! I didn't sleep well last night, but there isn't anything pressing on my agenda for today. While I was gone this weekend, Dh put new lights in my sewing room. Now I can see to work in there, so I might do a little sewing today. That was sweet! DH doesn't get it when I explain how important lighting is for crochet or hand work...Except for news sites on the iPad he doesn't read much at all.

Judy, sometimes cortisone seems like a miracle, doesn't it? Hope the rash subsides completely soon. It is amazing how good it works. I just applied the second dose for today.

Marlene, my grandsons are better at games than I am. I don't have to let them win, but you'd think they'd let me win once in a while, wouldn't you? Glad you and hubby are feeling better.

Linda, I hope dgs has a better week. Your DDs new spinning wheel sounds absolutely wonderful. Hope the dr has some answers for you this week.

I just washed two of the front windows yesterday (and the curtains) - what a difference :lol

Hi everyone. :)

Marlene ~ I hope you're having a wonderful day!

Cindy ~ Welcome back!  Glad you had a safe trip and I hope you were able to take it easy today. :yes

Judy ~ Great news that the cream is working!  Looking forward to seeing the next project picture. :)

Hi to the rest of the House, too!

No more storms are predicted for the near future, thank goodness.  Today's high was 50* with wind and drizzle!  My tomato plants have some tiny tomatoes and I'm sure they're in shock. :lol

Have a good evening. :manyheart

GS has been in school since Friday, however, he's essentially spent all day every day in the calm down room.  Today was a little better, but not a lot.  DD went through his stuff yesterday and it turns out he's got quite a bit of homework.  So today after he'd had an hour to calm down I got it out and asked him to work on it for half an hour.  WRONG move!  For over 15 minutes it was me trying to keep him from pounding his head against anything and everything hard in reach.  :bang It's a really good thing that I'm as strong as I am because it was a real challenge.  He was so upset he couldn't even talk.  Eventually he calmed down and I got a blanket around him and he fell into a doze.  I woke him up as I was getting up off the floor.  He had no memory of the time he was out of control and his eyes looked really dazed and glazed.  Scary.  I'm not going to try that again until after he's seen the doctor.  Unfortunately it's not until next week instead of this week.  I feel so sorry for DD and DGS.  Prayers for them would be really welcome.  I feel so helpless.  I sure don't have any answers.   :shrug  Sorry to vent so long.

Marlene, I hope you have had a superb birthday.     :birthday     :cake      :birthday

Judy, I'm so glad that the cortisone cream is helping.

Mary and Cindy, it sounds like you've both been having some rough weather lately.  Please stay safe.

I've gotten through 3 pattern repeats on the new shawl now.  I like the look of it.  There are two rows where I really have to be careful with the pattern, but the other two are a piece of cake.

Sunday we had a pie auction at the church  as a fundraiser.  We raised $915 for the charity.  DD and I each took a hot chicken pot pie as our contribution and they both went for $45.  DD brought home one of the pot  pies, a fresh strawberry pie, and a chocolate pie.  All of which were very good.

'morning peeps.

Mary, your weather sounds like what I've heard about Colorodo, that within 24 hours you can - and do - have two different seasons! I hope the tomatoes survive. I put out the pot of barely alive mint that I wintered in my garage. THAT was done before all the very cold temps hit again. I had cut it down a lot -- ruthless, really - and it is so full and gorgoeous now! Maybe your tomatoes will react well, too. I probably won't post another pic till the ghan is done.

Linda, oh, for a grandma to witness their GS like that....prayers, for him to be safe, and esp for wisdom so DGS can be helped. And prayers for you - though you were a caregiver to others for so many years, this is different... :heart

Hugs, my friends.

Good morning. Sun is shining, birds are singing, trees are budding, flowers blooming, a lawn mower is buzzing...yup, spring is in the air! Hopefully, to stay for a little while.

Linda, poor dgs, that's heartbreaking. I imagine your poor DD is really worried. Hugs to all of you! BTW, now I'm hungry for chicken pot pie! It's one of my favorites, but I don't often think to make it.

Mary, I sure hope your weather settles down for a bit. We had heavy winds a week or so ago, and they took down part of an old oak tree, but otherwise it's been unusually tranquil around here. (Unless you count snow in April!). Luckily Sophie is fearless and ignores whatever the weather is.

Judy, as near as I can tell, mint and other members of the mint family are pretty much indestructible. I planted a tiny lemon balm plant about 15 years ago. It's all over the area now. I let it be because it smells so pretty when you get near it. It gets into the grass once in a while and then I pull it out.

i went shopping with dd yesterday. I was hoping to buy a dress to wear to a wedding in a couple of weeks, but no luck. Dd found a lot of stuff, two dresses, four pairs of pants and some tops. She was shopping for clothes to wear for clinical days, and she also has a few weddings coming up. Why is it that there are so few age appropriate dresses out there for older women? Nearly everything is strapless, sleeveless, spaghetti straps, and just cut very skimpily in general. Waistlines fall above the waist, but not high enough to be an empire waist, lots of dresses fall well above the knee. My upper arms are too flabby to appear in public, and I'm uncomfortable in really short dresses. I want to look my age, not like I borrowed a dress from a 14 year old. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep looking, or if I'm just going to dust off my old faithful special occasion dress.

Well, better get going here. Laundry is calling.....

Hi Ladies,

Thank you for the birthday wishes!

Linda, Prayers for all of you and the doctors too. It has to be hard on all of you.

Cindy, When I've been in the stores lately it's unbelievable the styles of dresses for all ages. I just bought Maya and Jocelyn cute top and skirts (the skirts have shorts under them) but the material isn't play material. It's dressy material.

Judy, Glad your doing better.

Mary, I don't sleep well when it's storming either.

I was meeting hubby at his doctors appt this morning but yesterday after he rode his motorcycle home he called to tell me he didn't have keys to the garage. I remembered and told him where the extra key was at. Then about five minutes later he called me and said I don't have a house key either. A neighbor has one but we got that from him on sunday just before we left so if hubby came home earlier than me he could get in. My DS loses his house key so he needed one when we left at Christmas so I had hubby give him his. So I ate dinner with Maya and headed home. I am not sure how or what to do with him and his keys. He has a hook on each set of keys to hook them to his belt loop but he still loses them. Sometimes it drives me crazy.

Today we went to the doctors appt and he had to do blood work for lots of things. We go back next week to find out what to do about his sugar. Also found out he has a bulging disc in his back. She recommend injections for pain management. She said it isn't bad enough for surgery.

Tonight we went to my favorite mexican restaurant for my birthday dinner. It was delicious! Hope everyone has a thursday!

DGS had an appointment with his counselor.  Haven't heard how that went.  I finally made it to the knit and crochet group this afternoon/evening for the first time since breaking my shoulder.  Everyone was happy to see me.  It's a great group of ladies, many of whom also spin.  This is held at the local yarn shop and she had some very neat new yarns in.  I did not succumb but she had some tempting ones in.

I'm making notes on a card to bring to the Dr. appointment on Friday.  At least 4 things I want to talk to her about.

That's a cute picture of Sparkie, Judy.

Some things like chives and mint do come back year after year and are better for a good pruning.

good morning peeps!

Marlene, I love Mexican food! Sounds like a yummy Birthday dinner! Hmmm....forgetting keys....we just forget what day of the week it is now that hubby is totally retired! :lol

I still have stuff I bought over 6 months ago that I'm saving for knitting...

That's a cute picture of Sparkie, Judy.Thanks. He's a sweetheart...until we meet up with another dog. The four of us were on a walk yesterday and had to cross the street because two doors up Lucy's BFF was tied out on the lawn - it was a gorgeous day_ then we immediately saw another neighbor walking around the curve on the sidewalk on our side....she said Hi and hurriedly crossed the street with her Shi-Tzu....and three houses up a neighbor has an electronic fence. Her pit bull barked at us, we passed the house...and I heard the clickingof nails. Turned and the PB was following us. She stopped at the next door neighbors front lawn. Hubby went on a bit, I called to the dog and held her collar to bring her home. The grandma was home babysitting and I'm wondering if the e fence was on....  COuld have been scary, but the PB is a sweetheart. If she had approached us any closer...I hate to think of how our guys would have reacted.....scary!

My mint plant is thriving! I should have taken a before and after!

Off I go. Our friends are coming by for the afternoon.  BBL!

Good morning. Another nice sunny day here. Yesterday was beautiful, and I ended up spending most of it outside. I never got to the laundry, so that is on today's list.

My mil had a heart cath yesterday. She needs a new valve, and a stent. Hopefully the valve will not require open heart surgery. I'm not sure she would survive that. Still, if that's what the dr offers, it's her decision. However, I'm hoping that she will be a candidate for a minimally invasive approach. She was doing quite well when I saw her yesterday evening.

Judy, that is a great picture of Sparkie.

Linda, I sure hope the counselor offered some strategies to help dgs cope. I'm glad you were able to get back to the knit and crochet group. Our small town actually has an LYS. Whenever I go in there, I have an awful time deciding what to buy. I want one of everything. (Okay, maybe I want 2 or 3 of everything....)

Marlene, sounds like you had a good birthday.

I need to get back to making things for the pregnancy resource center. My goal every year is to make at least one thing every month. I didn't make it last year, and thus far this year, I haven't made anything, at least not that I can remember. I bought a bunch of fat quarters last year with plans to sew baby shoes. Those go fairly quickly, once I get started, so I'm going to try to work on some of those today.

Enjoy the day ladies.

I had the alarm set to go off at 10:30 this morning.  8:45 the postman knocked on the door with a package for me.  My spice racks had arrived.  Was just getting back to sleep and the insurance guy called with the policy number of my supplemental insurance.  I decided that I was supposed to be up instead of sleeping.  It's a gorgeous day here.  So we spent time out in the sun, walking and visiting with others out for the same reasons.

Hope you are all enjoying nice weather.

Hi everyone. :)   Yesterday and today have been picture perfect days and I've been in the yard a lot.  Lots of flowers and herbs planted, mulched and happy.  We'll be gone most of tomorrow, so it's been great to be outside!

I've just read through posts and need to get cleaned up...will be back later. :manyheart

Hi Ladies,

We went to visit are friend Gordy today. He's in a nursing home the next town over. He had a new type of defiberator put in december 30th. He hasn't been home since. He's been back and forth between several hospitals and this nursing home. Every since he had that surgery in december he can't walk. I don't understand why he wasn't up and walking after surgery or shortly afterwards and why he was allowed to lay in bed and become this weak. It was really sad to see him like this and to see him crying. Please put him in your prayers he needs all that he can get. They are doing pt on him, but right know but he can't pee. His balls are swelled up they can't put a catheter in him. He has to go see a specialist. He can only have 2 glasses of water a day (in 24 hours) and they are not very big glasses. If he get crushed ice they minus the some off his next glass of water. I'm going to step in and go with him or Mary when they go to the doctor so we know what is going on. There son isn't up to being that person. He is bipolar. There daughter works 12 hour shifts 6 days a week so I know she isn't going to take the time off. She hasn't before so I'm sure she isn't going to now. I would even be surprised if he has even seen her Dad very often in the four months this has been going on. They practically raised my husband and have always looked at him as a son. In the past Mary has always made Gordy suffer more or longer than I would of let my husband. She never believes him or thinks he's just being a baby.

Were going to hubby's sisters this weekend. Monday we will go back and see Gordy. And we will stop up and see Mary. Hubby did go to there house the other day when he was locked out. I don't know if I'll be on this weekend or not. Hope everyone has a great weekend. It's suppose to warm up into the 70's here. We are going garage sales saturday it's miles and miles long.

morning peeps.

Cindy, I've heard about the minimally invasive approach for valve replacement. That sounds like it would be a good solution for her if it's available.

Have to dash. Later, gators.

Hi, to everyone.

I saw my doctor for my 3 month diabetes and other stuff check.  I took a list with me this time.

 1) the long term inhaler was changed by the insurance people - however I can take up to two puffs twice a day which should help a lot more.  She also ordered a nasal spray to help with the allergies.  Hooray!

2) she ordered Immitrex  for the occasional migraines.

3) She increased the dose on the pain med to two pills twice a day instead of two pills once a day.

4) I have been noticing problems with balance since I fell.  The check she did wasn't normal, but not that bad.  I'm supposed to keep track of what's going on when it happens and we'll see if there's a pattern to it - such things as do I feel dizzy at the time, time of day, activity at the time, and so on.  I am a little concerned as this is fairly new and my mom had mini-strokes in her early 70s.

It's been a gorgeous day, but I have a feeling a storm front might be moving in as it's gotten very overcast and humid this afternoon.

The doctor increased one of DGS's meds and it seems to be helping.  Yesterday he came home from school in a cheerful mood, announced that he had homework, sat down and did it,  he missed one page and he went back and did it with no problems, and has ridden the bus to school both yesterday and today to school.  I gave him extra game time for doing the homework and after supper we went to Orange Leaf and had frozen yogurt sundaes.  Today he came home from school, announced he had gotten all caught up with his homework, curled up on the couch and went to sleep.  What a change for the better!  Thanks for all the prayers.

Things are looking up.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

It's supposed to be nice here and we don't have any big plans.  I do want to get to the LY&FS for the spinning weekend.  (Local Yarn & Fiber Store)  It's 9:00-3:00 the 1st and 3rd weekend of each month.  DD wants to go and show off her new spinning wheel.

Hi House.

Marlene ~ I'm so sorry to hear about Gordy.  I hope he can get some relief soon.

Linda ~ Oh, what good news about GS!  And your doctor's visit sounds like a lot was accomplished. :yes

I obviously never came back on yesterday ;)  but I started feeling fluish and hopefully it's just a 24 hour bug. :(  I did drive DH to a follow up with the neurologist and just waited in the car. (All of his tests showed nothing abnormal.)  Then I slept most of the afternoon!

Good morning

Hope this Sunday finds everyone doing ok

Some sad news on this front- DD and SIL took Belle back to the vet yesterday since they noticed a mass on her belly- looks like cancer metastasis....so needless to say, Belle's days are numbered- they are very sad, as am I and are figuring out how to tell the boys--Belle has been part of their family before the boys were born, and has been a part of their entire young lives. We went to see DD and the boys yesterday since SIL had work---and to make it worse, he got stuck having to work a double since all the co's on the 10-6 shift called out to watch the 'big fight'--... That whole fight thing really bothers me- here is a woman abuser who is making ton's of $....somehow, that isn't right- enough of that......

We are going to go to B&N today to look at books that would be good for the boys- on how to deal with the death of a beloved pet.....DD is not sure how to tell them---any ideas from any of you that have gone through this?

On a happier note, I've decided to try knitting my first sweater- they are doing a KAL at my local LYS.....DD's knitted blanket  is getting there---and now that it is getting warmer, I'm going to only work on that at home when I really  need mindless knitting.--   I also found yarn I had bought to make a shawl, so will probably start that as well.....and also get back to the socks....too many projects, not enough time.....

Off to get coffee.....and do some laundry-----and start the swatch for the sweater.........and wait for DH to make his appearance---he is still soundly sleeping!

Have a good day!

Joanne, I detest boxing. And though I'm a hockey fan I also detest the blood sometimes spilled on the ice when they really fight....
