and about died, wanted one for herself. I'm not able to think up crochet patterns myself, and while I can find lots of patterns for hats like this

I can't find any for the shorter ones. Does anyone have any idea how to modify the long one to make it look like the short one, or know of a crochet pattern for the short one? Thanks for any help :)

thanks a bunch! I went ahead & checked ravelry (which I didnt know about) & found a cheaper one that is actually closer to what I wanted (because of the mustache) http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bearded-warmth. Thanks so much for the site suggestions:)

I made one of these bearded hats for my teen daughter. The hat was easy, but the beard was completely freehand/freeform and I only had to tear it out twice! The beard and mustache (I made the mustache separately and sewed it on) looks really good and it does keep your face really warm. My daughter looks like a man when she wears it and her boyfriend can't bring himself to kiss her when she wears it because she looks so much like a guy!

I also got one off Ravelry, but it just hooked over the ears. My teenage boys loved it. Just look up beard hat and about 6 show up it was also free. It was done with bobbles but didn't have the part done that goes up your face it was done in sc but I just continued up in bobbles. I also made a hat to go with it, I have been going to put up pictures but I haven't figured out how yet.

I found a sock monkey hat/beard on Etsy that I had to have. The beard fits over the ears so it can be used with any hat but I know my grandson will love the hat, he likes monkeys, so I think it was money well-spent.
