First Poncho

You are all so very NICE with all of your compliments. It's very bad for my ego but so good for pushing me to try more.

I used The Crochet Stitch Bible to learn the stitch. I found it very easy to follow their directions as they have great pictures. I received the book from Hubby :heart for Christmas and I requested it because I have read so many good things posted about it here.

Here is a link to learn the stitch if you don't have the book.

crochet.about.com/library/weekly/aa122698.htm

It's also called a Lover's Knot, which I didn't realize until now although I remember ADORING a poncho I saw here done by Rascal in the Lover's Knot. (But I can't see her pics anymore) She must have been my inspiration.

The yarn is Berella So Soft by Bernat, which is 100% acrylic worsted weight.

And I used my Turn of the Century size H hook. :)h

And I used these guidelines Poncho Sizing (recommended by RebeccaV in another post) to determine which size my rectangles should be.

Also I have to make a correction and say that this was NOT my first poncho, lol. I completely forgot I made a Granny Square poncho for my youngest. :blush

Wow! That stitch is gorgeous. That's a beautiful poncho. Your husband might have a point. By using a stitch that's not as lacy, it makes the seam look more like an intentional part of the design. (I hope that came out right.)

I want to learn that stitch!

Ditto! I am so learning this! Its gorgeous! And so is your daughter!:clap

I did end up leaving the seams the way they were with the sc's. Thanks so much for everyone's advice on that.

My daughter wore her poncho to church yesterday (and again to school today). The lady in the pew behind us told her how lovely she thought it was.

I just pulled the stitches up to whatever I thought the rest of them were. The pattern is so lacy that you'll never be able to tell if one stitch is off a little from the last one.

That pattern is very close to the one I used. It should come out very similar to the poncho.

Instead of slip stitches I used single crochets, where they skipped 4 chains I only skipped 3. Row one is basically the same w/out the last 2 knots.

To build a row I chained 5 and ended that row with 1knot and a dtr (instead of starting every row with 2 knots). That gave mine a more defined edge while theirs is lacy and open.

On the alternate rows I started with a ch1 and an sc into the first sc and ended with an sc into the top of the chain 5. You're always making two knots and joining them into the center sc of the two knots below it.

Does that make sense?
