Cat and Dog Finger Puppets (3 images)

I decided to make my neice's class finger puppets this year for halloween, so here's some of what I created for them.

Cat finger Puppet

Materials:

Worsted Weight yarn in main color and small amount in nose color
Size F hook (3.75mm)
Stitch Marker
2 Pony Beads for eyes (optional)
Yarn needle (to weave in ends)

Finish Size: Almost 3”h (from ears to paws) x 1 ½” w (at its widest) inches

Notes:

Finger puppet is worked in a continuous spiral; do not join unless instructed to.

With Stitch Marker mark first st of each Rnd, moving it up as you go along.

Different Stitches:

Back Bump (of chain):

Picot: Ch2, sl st in 2nd chain from hook.

Beaded Sc: Insert hook in specified st, yarn over, pull up a loop, take this loop off hook, slide bead onto loop, then insert hook back into loop, yarn over and pull thru both loops on hook.

Sc Decrease next 2 sts together: [insert hook in next st, yarn over, pull up a loop] Do this 2 times, yarn over and pull thru all 3 loops on hook.

Dc Popcorn St: 5 dc in specified st, take hook out of loop, insert hook in first dc of the 5 dc, insert hook back into dropped loop, pull loop thru first dc and ch1.

Directions:

Ears: Ch7, on the wrong side of starting chain 1 hdc in Back Bump only of 2nd chain from hook, Picot, 1 hdc in Back Bump only of next chain, Ch1, sl st in Back Bump only of next chain, sl st in Back Bump only of next chain, ch1, 1 hdc in Back Bump only of next chain, Picot, 1 hdc in same Back Bump, ch1, sl st in front loop only (loop towards you) of first chain on the Right Side of Starting chain.
(4 hdc, 2 sl sts, 2 Picots)

Body:

Rnd 1: Ch1, 1 sc in same loop as sl st, 1 sc in front loop only of each of the next 5 chains, turn, 1 sc in back loop (or remaining loops) of each of the next 6 chains.
(12sc)

Rnd 2: 1 sc in each of the next 12 sts.
(12sc)

Note: Now you’re going to add the pony beads on Rnd 3 for the cat’s eyes, if you do not have pony beads, just work Rnd 3 like you did for Rnd 2 and embroider eyes on with yarn later on.

Rnd 3: 1 sc in next st, Beaded Sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, Beaded Sc in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 7 sts.

Rnd 4: 1 sc in each of the next 12 sts.
(12sc)

Rnds 5-7: Repeat Rnd 4 for Rnds 5, 6 and 7.

With nose color embroider a “Y” for a nose in between Rnds 4 and 7.

Rnd 8: [Sc Decrease next 2 sts together, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts] Do this 2 times, Sc Decrease next 2 sts together, Ch10, 1 sc in 2nd chain from hook, 2 sc in each of the next 3 chains, 1 sc in each of the next 5 chains, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts (on body).
(9sts + a tail)

Rnd 9: 1 sc in next st, 1 Dc Popcorn St in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 Dc Popcorn St in next st, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, Skip tail (make sure tail is on the outside of cat), 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts.
(7sc, 2 Dc Popcorn Sts)

Rnd 10: Sl st in each of the next 9 sts, join with sl st to first st.
(9 sl sts)

Finish off and weave in ends.

Dog Finger Puppet

Materials:

Worsted Weight yarn in main color and red.
Size F hook (3.75mm)
Stitch Marker
2 Pony Beads in an eye color
1 Pony Bead in nose color
Yarn needle (to weave in ends)

Finish Size: About 2 ¾”h x almost 1 ½”w inches

Notes:

Finger puppet is worked in a continuous spiral; do not join unless instructed to.

With Stitch Marker mark first st of each Rnd, moving it up as you go along.

Different Stitches:

Beaded Sc: Insert hook in specified st, yarn over, pull up a loop, take this loop off hook, slide bead onto loop, then insert hook back into loop, yarn over and pull thru both loops on hook.

Sc Decrease next 2 sts together: [insert hook in next st, yarn over, pull up a loop] Do this 2 times, yarn over and pull thru all 3 loops on hook.

Directions:

Dog’s Tongue: With red leaving a tail ch3, 1 sc in 2nd chain from hook, sl st in next chain, fasten off leaving a tail. Set aside, you’ll attach the tongue after Rnd 8.

Dog:

Rnd 1: Ch2 leaving a tail, 6 sc in 2nd chain from hook crocheting over tail.

Pull tail taut to close hole from starting.

Rnd 2: 2 sc in each of the next 6 sts.
(12sc)

Rnd 3: Ch7, 1 hdc in 3rd chain from hook, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 chains, 1 sc in each of the next 2 chains, 1 sc in each of the next 5 sts, ch7, 1 hdc in 3rd chain from hook, 1 hdc in each of the next 2 chains, 1 sc in each of the next 2 chains, 1 sc in each of the next 7 sts.
(12sc + 2 ears)

Rnd 4: Skip ear (make sure it’s on the rightside of your work), 1 sc in each of the next 5 sts, skip next ear, 1 sc in each of the next 7 sts.
(12sc)

Rnd 5: 1 sc in next st, Beaded Sc in next st (with eye color bead), 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, Beaded Sc in next st (with eye color bead), 1 sc in each of the next 7 sts.
(12sc)

Rnd 6: 1 sc in each of the next 12 sts.
(12sc)

Rnd 7: 1 sc in each of the next 3 sts, Beaded Sc in next st (with nose color bead), 1 sc in each of the next 8 sts.
(12sc)

Rnd 8: 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 3 sc* in next st, 2 sc in next st, take hook out of loop, insert hook in first sc of the 3 sc*, insert hook back into dropped loop, pull thru sc, ch1 (first part of mouth done), 1 sc* in same st as last 2 sc, 4 sc in next st, take hook out of loop, insert hook in last sc* before the 4 sc, insert hook back into dropped loop, pull loop thru sc, ch1 (last part of mouth done), 1 sc in each of the next 7 sts.
(9sc and 2 Sc Popcorn Sts for the mouth)

Attach tongue using tails in between the 2 Sc Popcorn Sts, when working the next Rnd make sure the tongue stays on the outside of finger puppet..

Note: When working into the Popcorn St work into the ch1 used to finish the stitch.

Rnd 9: 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts, 1 sc in each of the next 2 Popcorn Sts, 1 sc in each of the next 7 sts.
(11 sc)

Rnd 10: 1 sc in each of the next 9 sts, ch5, 1 sc in 2nd chain from hook, 2 sc in each of the next 2 chains, 1 sc in next chain, 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts.
(11 sc + tail)

Rnd 11: Sc Decrease next 2 sts together, 1 sc in each of the next 4 sts, Sc Decrease next 2 sts together, 1 sc in next st, skip tail (make sure tail is on outside of finger puppet), 1 sc in each of the next 2 sts.
(9sc)

Rnd 12: Sl st in each of the next 9 sts, join with sl st to first st.
(9 sl sts)

Finish off and weave in ends.
