I live in Portland, OR and a local, awesome group, Crafty Wonderland, is participating with a totally awesome way to use the recession to help holiday crafters!

]They are using vacant store fronts to house crafters during the holiday shopping season!!! Maybe other awesome cities can make something like this happen for them selves. I have posted what they are doing so spread the word! The glass is half full....the light shines in the strangest of places if you look at it right!

The post from Crafty Wonderland is below:

We are excited to finally announce the details of a top secret project we have been working on this Summer! The City of Portland has asked us to participate in their Pop-Up Shop program where they fill vacant storefronts downtown with local talent over the Holidays. Pretty exciting, huh?! Crafty Wonderland will host a Pop-Up Shop that will be open for a six week run from mid-November through the end of December. It will exclusively sell local art + craft from a curated selection of about 75 of the talented vendors who participate in our sales.

More details will be coming soon but this is what we can tell you so far:

CRAFTY WONDERLAND POP-UP SHOP

802 SW 10th Ave. in Portland

(on the corner of SW Yamhill + 10th, next to Finnegan's Toys

and across from the Central Library)

STORE HOURS:

10am - 7pm Monday through Saturday

12noon - 6pm Sunday

(these are tentative and may be subject to change!)

OPENING DATES:

Still to be determined but will most likely be mid-November.

Stay tuned for updates on our grand opening party!

We can't tell you how crazy excited we are about this new venture and we hope you are excited too! It's going to be a great way to get many of the amazing handmade goods from our sales into the hands of downtown shoppers! We have several fun special events in the works including an art show for the shop's grand opening and several trunk shows / tastings over the course of the six week run. We will be giving more details as they develop so stay tuned!
