the book Beyond the Square has several granny-ish triangles http://www.amazon.com/Beyond-Square-Crochet-Motifs-unexpected/dp/1603420398#reader_1603420398

if you open up the "look inside" and search for triangles, you can see the patterns. the first one is the most granny looking I think.

here is a pattern http://crochet.about.com/od/learncrochet/ss/tribasic_3.htm

I did one before starting out with a circle, chain 3, 2 dc

*chain 4 (I think it was 4) 3 dc* repeat twice

ss to top of ch 3 turn

2 dc in ch 4 sp, chain 4 and 3 more dc in chain 4 sp, chain 3

*3 dc in ch 4 sp, ch 4 and 3 more dc in chain 4 sp, chain 3* twice ss to top of chain 3, chain 3 and turn

2 dc in ch 3 sp, ch 3

*3 dc in ch 4 sp, ch 4 and 3 more dc in chain 4 sp, chain 3, 3 dc in ch 3 sp, ch 3* repeat twice, ss in top of ch 3

continue pattern to size you want. This hasn't been much tested except by me lol and could easily be something someone has already written up
