Smithsonian Institue Museum of Natural History Satellite Crochet Coral Reef

The exhibit will run from October to April. To learn more about it click here.There are reef alongs happening all over the DC Metropolitan area including a workshop as part of the folklife festival on June 28. There is a group on Ravelry sharing patterns pictures and reef along locations and a photo album on Flicker. Lion Brand has patterns for coral. Anyone can crochet a piece(s) for the exhibit and submit it. There will be three sections in the exhibit. One of highly colored and "healthy coral", one of toxic coral made out of things like plastic bags to symbolize what pollution is doing to the reef, and one of bleached reef so everything will be whitish global warmings contribution to the reef.

Thanks its not too late to crochet your own piece for the reef. The mail deadline is Aug 30. If you live in the DC Metro area you have until mid septemeber to drop your things off
