Connersmom: sorry about the late reply. I'm not sure if you still need your question answered but ill answer just in case. I sewed the button where I wanted it, after the bag was fi.ished, including the straps. I joined the yarn at the top(on the band) and crocheted across for however wide i wanted. Then Icontinued until it was the length I wanted, then made a button hole. I hope its clear, I'm not good at explaining lol.

as for making it bigger you could probably add a couple stitches in each section, before and after the imcreases.... maybe mail the designer.
