Baby alpaca yarn for a baby sweater?

I bought some really pretty lavendar baby alpaca, and I was wondering if I can make a sweater for a baby out of it? I know it would need gentle care, so I would make it for my daughter and put it away until she has a family.

Oh, and I would enter it in the county fair.

Would it be ok to use it for this purpose?
