Crocheted "Artwork" Ideas?

Recommended Posts

I have my own office at work that was just recently painted. My boss told me I can decorate as I see fit, but I don't have a lot of money to spend on artwork to hang on the walls. I have two walls that need pictures of some sort and I have some empty frames. Does anyone have a quick and easy idea of something I could crochet and frame? I don't really have the time or concentration for doilies right now and don't know anything about using graphs. Do you think if I just did some stripes of different colors using the shell stitch or even framed a big multi-colored granny square it would look okay?

I think the granny framed would look very nice, more so if you could make one that had a pretty pattern in it, and the stripes. Would showcase your hobby very nicely :D

You could make a collage of crochet flowers to put in the frame, or even a collage of colorful granny squares. I think I may even do something like this....it would make my home more homey.

I like the framed granny idea. There are some neat examples on this blog http://wrenhandmade.typepad.com/wren_handmade/crochet/page/4/ You can see more framed crochet ideas by paging back with the teeny red arrow at bottom of page. and here is her how-to http://www.designspongeonline.com/2009/07/granny-art.html She uses pretty fine yarn, or thread for hers.

this would also be a good way to use doilies or other pieces from a thrift store, garage sale, etc.

Just my .02, I would use thread butterflies or small doilies/coasters. Butterflies can be made from colored thread or done in white and framed on a dark background. I hope you post pictures when your decorating is complete.

Thanks, everyone, for your input. I have two big frames, so I think I'm going to do one granny square for right now and maybe do some flowers for the other one. I already put this on my desk at work and get a lot of compliments on it from co-workers:

That is very pretty! I was going to suggest a set of sampler squares -- like from the 63-block afghan. Just one block to a frame. But looking at your framed blue shells with the daisy, I don't think you need any suggestions -- you are plenty creative! :)

I think you'd be talkin freeform here. I like the flower idea but how about some trees and rocks and oh you could do such incredible things!! And then show us a picture of your artwork.

EXCELLENT idea you've got there!!
