knit and purl in same stitch?

I've just started knitting again, since a friend of mom's wanted me to try a cardigan for her. I need to know how to knit and purl in the same stitch.

:cheerJust as it says.

Knit the stitch but before you slip it onto the right hand needle, you purl it as well then slip it off.

You need to do a bit of a twist to do it but it is easy once you get the hang of it.

It is done as an increase and sometimes it is done as a Knit into the front and back of the same stitch.
