~~~~~~ :welcometo our House ~~~~
This is a long running CAL, which originally started when a group began making quiltghans ,using patterns from this website:
http://www.happyyellowhouse.com/
Some of us have been here a long time, others are new members .
Everyone is welcome ,whether you just found Crochetville, or if you've been a member since the beginning .
Our goal is to make this into a friendly place where there's no pressure ,no timelines ,and everyone can work on their own projects at their own pace .
Come on in . :yes
I of course am already hooked. I am interested in the handy dandy joining method though. Is it better then the whipstitching? I will have to consider it for the next one. Which is going to be the Ohio Star Variant. Not sure of colors yet though.
When Julie approached me about this CAL I was absolutely blown away :eek I must say I feel truly honored that anyone likes my designs well enough to start a CAL devoted to them :manyheart
Oh Donna if you do the Ohio Variant and let me a have a picture I will love you forever :clap :clap
Is it bad form for me to want to join this CAL as well? :blush LOL I really would like to do the Windtalker Lapghan. It'll take me a while but I'm gonna get it done :D
Thanks again to Julie, you're a doll :manyheart
Oh Cara I would be honored to give you a picture. I'm trying as hard as I can to get this Ohio Star one finished so I can start the variant one. I'm thinking of using burgundy as one of the colors. Maybe I'll do the red, white and blue with dark blues and reds and possibly aran for the white. :think I'll have to think about it a bit. lol Maybe the colors will just call to me when I go to the store :lol
Hey Cara...which ones do you need pictures of? A friend wants me to make one for another friends birthday. I am trying to get her to choose one from your site for me to do, if you need a photo from a particular one...I may be able to talk her into that one. I myself would love to do the Clay's Choice or County Fair or Ohio Star, or Blackford's Beauty, or Purple Pinwheels or Diamonds and Wheels...get my drift? LOL Let us know which ones you would like us to do if you can!
Wow! I'm so tickled by the response! Well Donna's doing the Ohio Variant when she finishes the Ohio Star she's on now. I could use a nice photo of the newest one, Windwalker and that's just a four block lapghan. Several people suggested using less blocks to make a lapghan or a baby crib ghan which I think is a fabulous idea! I'm gonna try the Windwalker but I crochet so very slowly these days that it'll take me forever lol :D
Tell you what I think I might do if anyone's interested. I could always go ahead and throw a few more up on the site if y'all wanna try them. I've got tons of them :rofl Let me know what you think of that idea and I can put some up tomorrow. For now I'm exhausted so bedtime for me :sleep
I am really excited about this and ever so grateful to you all...this CAL has made my day :manyheart
Me too, me too Cara! I'm not the fastest crocheter either, but will sure try! The baby afghan is a good idea, since I need to make one for my sister due in April!
Julie - I go away on holidays and comeback to find you have started another cal.
I have really missed this place and talking to you all.:manyheart
I enjoyed my holiday and the Australian Open Tennis was superb. Seeing it in the flesh is so different from watching it on tv. I won at the casino so I can now buy more yarn.:yay
I would like to join as I am already doing the casablanca. I havent got much done this week obviously but plan to get right back in there.
Cara - it would be an honor for you to continue with us. Your patterns are amazing.:yes
Wow, lots of replies already ! I am tickled pink ~~~ You guys are the greatest .
I will answer just a couple posts at a time, as I am so far behind already -
1- Ida--
You could do it. If I can, you can. I used to CRINGE at the thought of an afghan with lots of little pieces, but once you do one, you kinda get hooked on them. They are actually very easy and you can take them anywhere to work on, and work up those squares really fast- even if you only have a few minutes a day to spare !
2-
Heather- I'm so glad you are joining. I have enjoyed your posts in our other threads, so this will be great having you here. You are a great poster and dedicated to your projects .
Will your mom be choosing the pattern and colors or are you gonna pick them and surprise her ?
Donnna (sew)
Great, I'm glad to have you join ! It sounds like you are already "hooked" on these afghans . :)
My handy dandy joining method is the one I described before in the crochet-a-quilt area, I think it was .
Anyhow, here goes-- I hope I can explain it clear enough. I'm better at showing people than explaining it :
When you make a project like this, with many squares to join that make a pattern , I make them by row . I start at the top left of the design and work my way across horizontally .
THEN, I do the second row the same - I start at the left, making each square specified for that row , and continue doing this .
It may make it easier too if you print out some of the free graph paper online, then graph out your afghan so that you know which color comes next, then mark them off as you make them .
To join, you will need to have the first 2 rows ' worth of squares completed .
Lay them out in order -
Then ,start with the 1st square in row 1 ,and the first square in row 2 .
Put them together, good sides facing . Either sc or sl st across the 2 squares where they would join in the afghan . Do not finish off, but take square 2 from the 1st row, and square 2 from the second row, place them together same way , then continue across , joining these 2 . Pick up the 2 3rd squares, continue in the same way with them . Do this across the entire afghan, so that at the end, you will have the first 2 rows joined clear across the afghan .
THEN, when you get all the squares for the 3rd row complete, you will add them in the same manner, hooking them directly onto the piece you already have -- just make sure you join them in order and onto the 2nd row.
It is especially easy if you have someplace you can lay out your rows so you see which one comes next .
You continue this for each row, so by the time you get the last row added, you have the entire thing joined HORIZONTALLY .
Then, you will need to go back and do the same sc or sl st joining VERTICALLY, but this part is MUCH easier since the entire afghan is already hooked in one piece .
This makes joining a breeze and a LOT LESS sewing and weaving in ends, etc .
Hope it works well for you ! :manyheart
Cara -
NO WAY is it bad form to wanna join this !
It'd be bad if you didn't ! :lol
( Joking, feel free to join if you want. I don't mean to sound like anyone HAS to ) :)
We'd all love to have you join us ,especially since you are the designer of all these patterns, and YES, we'd love to see more of your designs --- put 'em on your web page --- it'll just be like having a BIG box of chocolate instead of a small one ! More Choices...... :hook
I love the idea of the lapghans, too . Can't wait to see yours come to life-- that green and brown are beautiful together .
Tabby-
My buddy Ole Pal
I KNEW this would just excite you to no end ~~~
ANOTHER CAL to join ! :lol
Why don't you take a look at the new lapghan Cara has added and I think she said she may have more of those to add , so maybe one of them would be a good project since you don't wanna get into another big one right now .
* Don't feel you HAVE to join .... but doggone, it sure would be lonely here without you .
*** Please pay close attention to the fine print before signing any contract . :D
