2 ladies wearing handmade poncho's

Recommended Posts

My hubby and I were at michaels and there were 2 older ladies wearing really pretty poncho's . They were obviously handmade and really pretty. That inspired me to finally wear 1 of mine and I got a bunch of compliments.

Well, the golden rule always was....if you were old enough to wear it the first time it was in fashion, you are probably too old to wear it now

I don't think that is necessarily the case here though. I have seen a lot of ladies 35 & up wearing some very classy ponchos. Granted most of them were store-bought, but they were with upscale fibers with graceful shapes that didn't look silly on them at all. As with any type of clothing, you need to be realistic about your shape and what looks good on it.

Myself, being of the rounder persuasion, have decided a poncho would quite likely be mistaken for a circus tent so I've opted for shawls. I made one from Chelle's pattern out of homespun. It's warm & snuggly and I think is more flattering than a poncho ever would be on me.

Well This is my opinion If your a little rounder :fluffy wear a poncho that is longer and if you are lucky enough to be tall and skinny you can wear anything :rolleyes I consider myself in between and I wear longer ones, if I was to wear anything short it would be a shawl, but haven't finished one of those yet. You just gotta find the one that looks good on you:wink

I wore one of my poncho creations to work one day (a casual Friday). It's one of those two rectangles sewn together kinds...

Anyway.. a guy that is about my same age (early 40s) said, "oooh! Look at Deb, trying to be all HIP." :irked It was a sarcastic comment.. and I did not appreciate it.

But, I received many compliments by others, which made me feel a little bit better. :( I guess.

I haven't worn it to work since, but I have worn it shopping a couple of times. (btw - I am a size 18 person.. short too... maybe I shouldn't be wearing ponchos.. but I love them.. so I do!)

I kept wrestling with the same thing. I'm tall but round. I am always hot but live in Indiana, so it gets cold here. I made one for myself out of homespun that is long(I just sort of winged it) and it ended up with sort of a cowl neck. I wasn't sure if I liked it and was ready to pull it apart and do something else with the yarn. But my mom loved it on me, said it was just the right length. The V doesn't end up dead center so I think that is also a little more flattering. I've seen a lot of heavy set teenage girls wearing them too short and with that V right smack in the middle and I think that just draws the attention where it shouldn't be for most people(myself included!) But I hate to wear a coat and my poncho is working out great!:flake

I wear my a bit askew... so it's asymetrical. Much more flattering! :wink At least *I* think so!
