Good book to learn from.

I am looking for a good, basic book that has instructions plus patterns for learning to knit.

 

What can you recommend?

I am learning to knit using Barbara Walkers "Learn to Knit Afghan" book. It is a book of squares. Each group of squares introduces a new technique and each new technique builds on the last one. It might be a little hard to figure out how to do a stitch if you are a visual learner, but I haven't had any trouble figuring out what she is trying to teach me yet.

When I started making these squares last year, I just barely knew how to knit and purl. I'm about to start square 34 and I'm now knitting cables.

I really recommend the website http://www.knittinghelp.com. This is where I learned to knit and it is REALLY helpful. Has videos and shows both ways to knit.
