Unbirthday Fingerless Gloves

Well, I've decided that I've been lurking for far too long and needed to post something. I'm way excited about the new Alice in Wonderland movie coming out in a month (YAY!), and after I got my M-is-for-Mad shirt I decided I had to make a pair of fingerless gloves to go with them. (When it's time to go see the movie, I'm gonna make a crazy top hat too. It'll be awesome.)

 

So here are your Unbirthday Fingerless Gloves! (A word to the wise, though - DON'T work with hot red yarn for long periods of time. It will give you the worst headache.

 

 

Materials:

About 2 oz. worth of worsted weight yarn (example is shown in Red Heart Super Saver in Cherry Red)

U.S. G/4.25 mm hook

 

Size: Ladies’ medium (I have a 6-inch wrist and this is loose on me. Glove has about a 7.5-inch circumference. To change the size, rounds are worked in multiples of 6.)

(Make 2)

 

Ch 24 loosely. Sl st to first ch to form a ring.

 

Round 1: Ch 1. Sc in same ch and in each ch around. Join to first sc, not ch-1. (Ch-1 does NOT count as first st, here and throughout pattern. Always join to first st in round.) [24 sts]

 

Round 2: *Ch 7, skip 5 sts, sl st in next st. Rep from * around. [4 ch lps]

 

Round 3: Ch 1. 6 sc in ea lp. Join to beg. [24 sts]

 

Round 4: (If changing colors, do so in this round.) Ch 1. Sc in same st and ea st around. [24 sts]

 

Round 5: *Ch 4, skip 2 sts, sl st in next st. Rep from * around. (Same st as ch counts as first st) [8 ch lps]

 

Round 6: Ch 1. 3 sc in ea ch lp. Join to beg. [24 sts]

 

Round 7: Ch 2. Hdc in same st and ea st around. [24 sts]

 

Rounds 8-10: Rep Rounds 5-7.

 

Round 11: Rep Round 5.

 

Round 12: Ch 1. 3 sc in 1st lp, 4 sc in next 6 lps (inc made), 3 sc in last lp. Join to beg. [30 sts]

 

Round 13: Ch 2. Hdc in same st and ea st around. Join to beg. [30 sts]

 

Round 14: Ch 7, skip 5 sts, sl st in next st. *Ch 4, skip 2 sts, sl st in next st. Rep from * around. [1 big ch lp + 8 small ch lps]

 

Round 15: Ch 1. 6 sc in big lp, 3 sc in ea small lp. Join to beg. [30 sts]

 

Round 16: Ch 2. Hdc in same st and ea st around. Join to beg. [30 sts]

 

Round 17: (If changing colors, do so in this round.) *Ch 6, skip 4 sts, sl st in next st. Rep from * around. [6 ch lps]

 

Round 18: Ch 1. 5 sc in ea lp. Join to beg. [30 sts]

 

Round 19: Ch 2. Turn piece. Hdc in same st and ea st around. Fasten off and weave in ends.

 

OR . . . add a Spiky Picot Edging! (not shown in picture)

 

Round 20: *Ch 2, skip a st, sl st in next st. Rep from * around. [15 ch lps]

 

Round 21: Ch 1. *Sl st in next ch lp, ((ch 3, sl st in 1st ch [picot])), sl st in same ch lp. Rep from * around. Fasten off and weave in ends.
