Charity Blast January 21st to 26th....Summary Posted

Needle Arts

Recommended Posts

I've decided to work on baby quilts this time. I dug out my material this morning and I'm choosing patterns and cutting out the pieces today, so I can start putting them together tomorrow. I'm practicing on some squares that I might use in a future full-sized quilt and seeing what they look like when put together. :lol I have one ready to go so far and the pieces for the second top are half cut out. And I have one that has the top almost put together, too. Hopefully I can get three or four done by Tuesday night.

Do you have a favorite pattern for preemie = gans?

This is my favorite - http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.action?grpId=3659174697252379&articleId=281474977712197

It works up really fast. I can pump out two or three in a charity weekend.

I went to JoAnn today to get some cotton because I’m out of solid colors. Well, they are having a sale on a bunch of the yarn. I was able to get my paws on skeins of Lion Brand Pound of Love for $4.99 a skein!! It’s usually $7.99. So, I bought a few of those and now I’ll be making preemie afghans for the charity weekend. :clap

I love a hexagon which kind of happened when I didn't count and thought I was doing an octagon. My second favorite is a round ripple but I cannot complete those as quickly. My third would be the diagonal box stitch.

Finished a hexagon yesterday (24" diameter with baby weight yarn/G hook) and started another one last night and I'm up to row 17. Seems to grow much more quickly than doing a rectangle or square but that may just be my perception.

I usually make mine as a large solid sided granny square. 5 oz of RHSS gives me 15 rows and then I add two rows in a complimentary color to finish it off. Most recently the last two rows are a round of sc and a round of picots.

I am joining in too this month:clap (and hopefully during the rest of 2010 too!)

I am saying hello just in time as we start this today (in my head I thought it was starting Friday so I am glad I stopped in today or I would have lost a days crochet time! :hook

I had a sort out of my wool (sorry I mean to say yarn) I am making squares this weekend (pastels mostly with white) but I don't know if they will be 6 or 8 inches yet (I will have to see how I feel!)I have almost run out of squares to put together for my charity blankets and so I need to get some more 'stock' squares made!:D I have been playing with The Never Ending Blanket Method for over a year now and really like the way it keeps my stock of small balls and left overs down! Has anyone esle tried it?

I also have 10 balls of a nasty (but soft and pretty coloured) wool which is kind of too lumpy for crocheting easily with.:think I made a big blanket with it then a pram blanket with it and still had some of the wool left!!! I gave it to Mum for her charity hat knitting and she says it is too lumpy to knit with easily too and as I bought it I can have it back! :blush

So... I will start a simple giant granny style of pram blanket with it and try to work on it a bit this weekend too! It would be nice to see the back of the yarn and make something pretty for charity with it! (it is pink and blue by the way and I am adding some plain white acrylic to try to stabalise it a bit!?)

I am excited to see and hear what everyone else is making this weekend! Happy Crocheting to you all!:crocheting

I am off to have some lunch and start crocheting!

cshort - I hope your lunch break is soon and your booties are coming along well! :)

Morning Ladies, ;)

Some of you got here before I did. I can smell my morning coffee brewing and hope it helps my eyes open. DH came to bed at 4:30am and of course which woke me up and that brought the cat wanting breakfast. Gave up at 5:00am and got up to try and start my day.

Welcome Lindsay, you have an advantage, you are ahead of most of us time wise. Glad to have you aboard.

WVAAlesha I'll see if I can find links to a couple I like. I've printed out most of the ones I do most often but at that time didn't attach the link of where I found them :( so it will take me a bit of looking. Must get that first cup of coffee!

Just did a recap: eighteen participants so far. If you are lurking, the more the merrier and you are welcome if you'd like to join us.

We are working our way around the world, not in any particular order: Wyoming, Nebraska, Ohio, California, Louisianna, Virginia, Indiana, Oregon, Georgia, Florida, Delaware and Scotland, UK. :clap Not everyone had a location in their post heading, if you didn't let me know and I'll add you to the above list.

I'll be working on premie 'ghans today in Red Heart Soft Baby, with soft shaded pastels called Angel Print. Very versatile hues and makes up into a nice light cover.

I'm here from Massachusetts but I may have to back-out. I just found out I have to work this weekend :( I also have to bring Missy to the vet and do some serious grocery shopping... and the normal weekend cleaning and cooking...plus I got this silly "poor me" depression thing going... not good...

yeah, I think I have to let you all down and back out and I am really sorry but maybe I will try again next month.

Take care of yourself, Beth, and we'll see you when you can make it next time. :hug

I have finished cutting out the pieces for the third baby quilt and have put in about 45 minutes on a wool helmet liner for the DIL of the couple I live with, too. :knit She's in the army and stationed in Afghanistan for a year. It's time to bring up my sewing machine and start putting some of the pieces together now. :sew

I'd like to jump in on this if I can. :) I just picked up some more Bernat Softee Baby (only had blue and white left) and thought I would make up some preemie/newborn hats and possibly a preemie blanket.

jessicalgil - bummer, allergies! No fun, been there done that for a lot of years. Will have to say the older I got the less they bothered me (or I learned to live with them better); so now that I'm "old" as my grandson says, am I well, yeh, most of the year. Hope you're feeling better and will drop in and visit. See you next month if you feel up to it.

Beth, don't feel you have to apologize. We all have to set priorities for our families needs. Glad you will be lurking to see what we are working on. See you next month, nicolep has volunteered to host Feb/Mar and she posts dates early. I'll be looking for you then. That will be my month to lurk only.

Dianna - Welcome, look forward to your posting on how your projects progress. The need is great and it is so rewarding to see what we can accomplish when we all put our minds to it.

Susan and Linda looks like you had a productive day. I looked at my project yesterday several times as I walked by. I'm at that point where the 'ghan is just hitting my lap and seems to pull on my hands as I work. I know in a couple more rows it will be more self supporting but I always seem to bog down right here in my projects (row 22). I'll be on the road a good deal of today but know I have at least two stops where I'll have some time to work. I'll try to check in before I leave.
