Materials:

I and J Hook

350 yds 3 ply sport weight soft yarn

 

The yarn I used was donated to me and is a brand I've never seen before. The label says "Super Soft 3" and it's "imported by Lana Moro Inc. in New York". Caron Simply Soft would be a good substitute. I used 2 1-3/4 oz skeins.

 

Blunt needle

 

Gauge = 7 sts = 2" and 7 rows = 2"

 

Abbreviations:

ch = chain

sc = chain

ea = each

st = stitch

sts = stitches

 

WORK ENTIRE PATTERN IN BACK LOOPS ONLY AND HOLDING 2 STRANDS OF YARN TOGETHER.

 

ROUND 1: With J hook, ch 2, 12 sc in first ch. Join in first sc. ch 1, turn. (12 sc)

 

ROUND 2: 2 sc in in ea st around. Join in first sc. ch 1, turn. (24 sc)

ROUND 3: 1 sc in ea st around. Join in first sc. ch 1 turn (24 sc)

 

ROUND 4: *2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next st. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. ch 1 turn. (36 sc)

 

ROUND 5: 1 sc in ea st around. Join in first sc. ch 1 turn. (36 sc)

 

ROUND 6: *2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 2 sts. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. ch 1, turn. (48 sc)

ROUND 7: 1 sc in ea st around. Join in first sc. ch 1 turn. (48 sc)

 

ROUND 8: *2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 3 sts. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. ch 1, turn. (60 sc)

ROUND 9: 1 sc in ea st around. Join in first sc. ch 1, turn. (60 sc)

 

ROUND 10: *2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 4 sts. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. ch 1, turn. (72 sc)

 

ROUND 11: 1 sc in ea st around. Join in first sc. ch 1, turn. (72 sc)

ROUND 12: *2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 5 sts. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. ch 1, turn. (84 sc)

 

ROUND 13: 1 sc in ea st around. Join in first sc. ch 1, turn. (84 sc)

ROUND 14: *2 sc in first st, 1 sc in next 6 sts. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. ch 1, turn. (96 sc)

 

ROUNDS 15 thru 18: 1 sc in ea st around. Join in first sc. ch 1, turn. (96 sc)

ROUND 19: *sc next 2 sts together, 1 sc in next 6 sts. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. ch 1, turn. (84 sc)

sc 2 sts together = insert hook in next st, pull up a loop, insert hook in next st, pull up a loop, yo, draw thru all 3 loops on hook.

ROUND 20: *sc next 2 sts together. 1 sc in next 5 sts. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. ch 1, turn. (72 sc)

 

ROUNDS 21 thru 23: 1 sc in ea st around. Join in first sc. ch 1, turn. (72 sc)

ROUND 24: *sc next 2 sts together, 1 sc in next 4 sts. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. ch 1, turn. (60 sc) DO NOT BREAK OFF

RIBBING

switch to I hook

Ribbing is worked in rows

ROW 1: ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 3 ch across. sl st in base of ch 5, sl st in next st. Turn, DO NOT CH 1. (4 sc)

 

ROW 2: working in back loops only, sc in next 4 sts, ch 1, turn. (4 sc)

 

ROW 3: working in back loops only, sc in next 4 sts, sl st in next 2 sts of last round of hat body. Turn, DO NOT CH 1. (4 sc)

 

Repeat rows 2 and 3 around last row of hat body.

 

At the end of last row of ribbing, working thru back loops and opposite side of foundation ch, sl st in next 4 sts to close the seam.

 

Fasten off and weave in ends.
