Size – Adult, up to 2x

Gauge is approximate: 13 sc measured at end of round 4 = 4"; 1 arch measured from the top of the V stitch to the bottom of the 7 dc's = 2"; 1 arch measured from sc to sc = 3". Your gauge my not be exactly the same as mine because I may have stretched mine more or less then you.

Materials: K hook, 3 6 oz skeins Red Heart Super Saver yarn (approximately 700 yds), blunt needle, scissors

TIP: I used 2 full 6 oz skeins and a small amount from a third for the neck edging, you will have a lot of the 3rd skein left over.

Stitches Used: slip stitch, chain, single crochet, double crochet,

 

Crossed Bar Stitch - yo, insert hook in st or sp indicated, pull up a loop (3 loops

on hook), yo insert hook in next st or sp indicated, pull up a loop (5 loops on

hook), yo draw thru all 5 loops on hook, ch 1 - crossed bar stitch made.

Double Treble – wrap yarn around hook 3 times, insert hook in designated stitch or

space, pull yarn through stitch or space, 5 loops on hook, (yo, pull yarn through 2 loops) 4 times.

Picot – chain 3, slip stitch in first chain.

V stitch – double crochet, chain 2, double crochet all in same stitch.

Abbreviations used:

beg – beginning

cbs – crossed bar stitch

ch – chain

ch-# – chain, followed by a dash, followed by a number, refers to a chain made in

previous round. Example ch-5 refers to a chain of 5 sts.

dc – double crochet

dcs – double crochets

dtr – double treble

sc – single crochet

sk – skip

sl st – slip stitch

sp – space

sps - spaces

st – stitch

sts – stitches

INSTRUCTIONS

ROUND 1 : ch 78, join with sl st to form a ring. Be careful not to twist ch. Ch 1, sc in

same st as join, ch 1, *sk 1 st, sc in next st, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. (39 scs and 39 ch-1 spaces)

ROUND 2: sl st in next ch 1 sp, ch 2, CBS in spaces around. Join in first sp. (39 cbs)

TIP: CBS - yo, insert hook in st or sp indicated, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), yo insert hook in next st or sp indicated, pull up a loop (5 loops on hook), yo draw thru all 5 loops on hook, ch 1 - crossed bar stitch made.

ROUND 3: ch 7 (counts as 1 dtr & 2 ch), *dtr in next sp, ch 2. Repeat from * around.

Join in 5th ch of beg ch. (39 dtr)

ROUND 4: ch 1, sc in same st as join, 3 sc in next ch-2 sp, *1 sc in next dtr, 3 sc in next ch-2 sp. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. (156 sc)

ROUND 5: ch 1, sc in same st as join, 1 sc in next 2 sts, ch 4, sk next 3 sts, *sc in next 3 sts, ch 4, sk next 3 sts. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. (26 ch-4 spaces)

ROUND 6: sl st in next sc, ch 1, sc in same st, sk next sc, 7 sc in ch-4 sp, *sk next sc, sc in next st, sk next sc, 7 sc in next ch-4 sp. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. (208 sc)

ROUND 7: ch 1, sc in same st as join,

*ch 2, sk next st, dc in next st,

ch 2, sk next st, V st in next st,

ch 2, sk next st, dc in next st,

ch 2, sk next st, sc in next st.

Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. (130 ch-2 sps)

TIP: V st – dc, ch 2, dc all in the same st.

ROUND 8: sl st in next 2 ch, sl st in next dc, sl st in next 2 ch, sl st in ch-2 sp of V st, *3 sc in ch-2 sp of V st, ch 5. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. (26 ch-5 sps)

TIP: place a marker in first sc of round to mark beginning of round.

ROUND 9: sl st in next sc, ch 1, sc in same st, 7 dc in next ch-5 sp, *sk next sc, sc in next sc, sk next sc, 7 dc in next ch-5 sp. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. (182 dcs)

ROUNDS 10 thru 24: repeat rounds 7, 8, and 9 5 times.

ROUND 25: Repeat round 7.

ROUND 26: ch 1, sc in same st as join, (ch 1, sc in next sp) twice, *ch 1, (sc, ch 2, sc) in next sp, (ch 1, sc in next sp) 4 times. Repeat from * around, end with ch 1, join in first sc.

Fasten off, weave in ends.

NECK EDGE

With right side of poncho facing, attach yarn in any ch-1 space on neck edge.

ROUND 1: ch 2, cbs in ea sp around. Join in first ch-1 sp of round.

ROUND 2: ch 1, TURN, sc in same sp as join, ch 3, sl st in first ch (picot made), *sc in next sp, picot. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
