Skill: Easy

 

Size: one size fits most up through 2X, length = 25" from neckline to point on hemline

 

Hook size: J (K optional for foundation chain)

 

Yarn: Bernat Baby Coordinates, sports weight; color #35 Lovely Lilac, 3 6oz skeins, pattern used 1099 yards. Yarn content is 75.2% acrylic, 22.2% acetate, 2.6% nylon

 

Supplies used: scissors, blunt needle, tape measure, stitch marker

 

Gauge: 5 rows = 4" measured from center bottom of shell; 2 panels = 6" measured from center of bow across 2 panels to center of next bow

 

Stitches used: chain, single crochet, double crochet, slip stitch;

 

Abbreviations: ch = chain; sc = single crochet; dc = double crochet; sl st = slip stitch;

tog = together; ea = each; st(s) = stitch(es); sk = skip; beg = beginning; sp = space

 

PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS

Beginning chain counts a first stitch unless otherwise stated.

 

FOUNDATION: ch 80, join with sl st to first sc, be careful not to twist ch.

 

ROUND 1: ch 3, dc in ea ch around. Join in top of beg ch. (81 dc)

 

ROUND 2: ch 6 (counts as first dc and chain 3), dc in same st as join,

sk next 2 sts,

*(dc, ch 3, dc) in next st,

sk next 2 sts.

Repeat from * around. Join in 3rd ch of beg chain. (27 ch-3 sps)

 

ROUND 3: sl st in ch-3 sp, ch 3, (dc, ch 3, 2 dc in same ch-3 sp,

* (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch-3 sp. Repeat from * around. Join in top of beg ch.

(27 ch-3 sps)

 

ROUND 4: sl st in next st, sl st in next ch-3 sp. ch 3, (dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in same ch-3

sp, ch 1, * (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch-3 sp, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Join in

top of beg ch. (27 ch-3 sps)

 

ROUND 5: sl st in next st, sl st in next ch-3 sp, ch 3 (dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in same sp,

ch 2, *(2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch-3 sp, ch 2. Repeat from * around. Join in top of

beg ch. (27 ch-3 sps)

 

ROUND 6: sl st in next st, sl st in next ch-3 sp, ch 3 (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same sp,

ch 3, * (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-3 sp, ch 3.

Repeat from * around. Join in top of beg ch. (54 ch-3 sps)

 

ROUND 7: sl st in next 2 sts, sl st in next sp

ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same ch-3 sp

*(2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch-3 sp,

(3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-3 sp.

Repeat from * around. Join in top of beg ch. (54 ch-3 sps)

 

ROUND 8: sl st in next 2 sts, sl st in next ch-3 sp, ch 3,

(2 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in same st,

*5 dc in next ch-3 sp

(3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch-3 sp.

Repeat from * around. Join in top of beg ch. (27 ch-3 sps and 27 5 dc groups)

 

ROUND 9: sl st in next 2 sts, sl st in next sp, ch 3,

(2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same ch-3 sp,

ROUND 13: Repeat round 12.

 

ROUND 14: sl st in next 2 sts, sl st in ch-2 sp, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in same sp,

sk next 3 dc, dc in next dc

ch 3, sc around chain of previous 2 rounds

ch 3, dc in next dc,

*(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp

sk next 3 dc, dc in next dc,

ch 3, sc around chains of previous 2 rounds,

ch 3, dc in next dc.

Repeat from * around. Join in top of beg ch. (27 ch-2 sps and 27 ch-5 sps)

 

ROUNDS 15 thru 26: (Repeat rounds 12, 13, and 14) 4 times

 

NOTE: If poncho is too short, repeat rounds 12, 13, and 14 until your poncho is

as long as you wnt it. For a shorter poncho, do fewer repeats of rounds 12, 13, and 14.

 

ROUND 27: ch 2 (does not count as a stitch), hdc in same st as join, hdc in next

2 sts,

(hdc, ch 2, hdc) in next ch-2 sp,

hdc in next 4 sts,

3 sc in next ch-3 sp, sc in next sc, 3 sc in next ch-3 sp,

*hdc in next 4 sts

(hdc, ch 2, hdc) in next ch-2 sp

hdc in next 4 sts

3 sc in next ch-3 sp, sc in next sc, 3 sc in next ch-3 sp.

Repeat from * around. end with 1 hdc in last st, Join in first hdc (ignore the beg

ch 2)

 

Fasten off and weave in ends.

 

NECK EDGE

Work BETWEEN the stitches and not in the loops of the stitch for round 1 only.

 

ROUND 1: with right side of poncho facing you, join yarn between any 2 sts at the back of the neck edge.

ch 1, sc in same place as join, sc in next 2 sps,

sc in next sp, decrease over next 2 sps,

*sc in next 3 sps, decrease over next 2 sps.

Repeat from * around. Join in first sc. (64 sc)

Note: decrease = insert hook in next space, pull yarn thru, insert hook in next

space, pull yarn thru, yo pull yarn thru all 3 loops on hook.

 

ROUND 2: working in stitches now, ch 1, sc in same st as join, ch 3,

*sk next st, sc in next st, ch 3. Repeat from * around. (32 ch-3 sps)

 

ROUND 3: *4 sc in next ch-3 sp. Repeat from * around. Join in first sc.

 

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Dot,I got a deal on some yarn and for 2 weeks I tried to find a poncho pattern. Than I was lucky and found yours. I said to myself what a beautiful poncho I wish I could make it. I printed the pattern out. And I started crocheting and the way you wrote the pattern I learned new stitches and I didn't give up. I wish I could send you a picture. I thank you for a beautiful poncho, That I can't believe I made. Your a great teacher and designer. Thanks for sharing. marie:cheer
