*** I am bumping this back up again so that anyone who started a Gingerbread House last year and didn't get it finished (like me :blush:lol) can try again this year!!

Here is the original post and the info. I will check the links to see if they still work.

Have fun!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’ve decided to host my first ever Crochet-A-Long!
The theme is Gingerbread !!!!!!!!!
Obviously, I’m gearing up for the holidays.
There is no one specific pattern for this CAL. Any crocheted Gingerbread item is fine.
Some ideas include :
Ornaments
Fridgies
Potholders
Placemats
Christmas Stockings
Garland
*I personally have my eye on the Carolyn Christmas Gingerbread House below:
Pattern in Crochet Today Magazine by Carolyn Christmas:
Herrschners offers the above pattern and yarns as a kit for about $20. Not bad.
:drool this sounds like too much fun!
I love gingerbread! Maybe we could share some recipes, too?
I have on my mom's Christmas wish list the Gingerbread House by Roseanne Kropp. It is in a booklet from Annie's Attic called "Winter Wonderland" I just didn't have the gumption to work on it, but now that I won't be alone.....
...does this mean I'm joining? :think:scrachin'... :yes
I will work a little at a time, as I have colors I need available, starting early next week.
Oooo, I love this! I don't know which one yet I am going to do, I have to think on that part a bit. My niece's make gingerbread houses every year, but get so upset when it's time to throw it away:( wouldn't they love to have one to keep for always!:yes Great idea, I'm in!
Oh man I was just in Jo-Ann's and Wal-Mart yesterday and completely forgot to look for Crochet Today! I want that gingerbread house pattern so bad! It's the nicest one I've ever seen. If I can get the magazine, I want to make one, but it will have to wait. I've got far too much on the front burners right now with Christmas creeping up mighty quickly.
Oh, thank you LeaAnne for pointing me in the direction of this CAL! :yay:clap:yay All because I told her I made gingersnaps today :lol
This might be just what I need to get my crochet mojo going again. C'mon it's been like a whole week now :rofl
The December 2008 issue of Crochet World has some cute gingerbread ideas, including a gingerbread man doily and a gingerbread doll. It would be the doll I'd be thinking about. It's called Ginny Gingerbread Doll and it is a 16-inch doll with a pretty dress and her own little gingerbread dolly. I'm on the yarn-buying strike until October 19, but I have enough to make the little dolly :scrachin
Thanks for a great CAL idea Scorpio! I'm in!
I dug out my pattern like the one on Etsy, but I would rather make Maggie's. I can't buy it right now because I'm laid off from work. :( I'll join in the CAL if I have the right colors of yarn on hand.
:ty
Croshay- Since you have a pattern already, I really hope that you can make this CAL work out for you. Being laid off is a bummer. I just went on disability and took a "cut in pay" myself. A cute gingerbread house will definitely cheer me up.
Ericalynn- Have you decided on a pattern yet? I think that it's really a great idea for your neices! How old are they? My daughter is 12 and we've made quite a few Gingerbread Houses over the years. They're all gone now :blush
I think I welcomed everybody :think
Unfortunately I wasn't able to get out and buy my pattern today. My blood pressure was dangerously low so I couldn't drive and stayed home instead (I had open heart surgery - 5 months ago and am on lots of meds. now).
BUT !!!! I just called Michaels Arts and Crafts and they have several copies of the Crochet Today magazine with Carolyn Christmas' pattern in it. DH is going to take me to buy it tomorrow ! :yay
Thanks, Lorraine. I think I will join the CAL, even if I don't make that whole big gingerbread house. I made a few of those gingerbread girl "heads" last year and dug them out this afternoon also, to get myself inspired. :D I'll post a pic of them if you would like.
Croshay, please post them, I would love to see them....
Ask and you shall receive! :lol
These are from the pattern at http://www.orble.com/free-gingerbread-girl-magnet-crochet-pattern/ (and this link is already included in the first post of this thread).
I made up little bows myself instead of buying them.
Sorry for the dark picture. My camera is messing up & I don't want to part with it to send it to the shop.
Croshay - Nice little ginger-heads! Cute!
Lorraine - For now, I am going to try these two patterns:
http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/70709AD.html?noImages=0
and
http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/70708AD.html?noImages=0
If I like these and depending on their size when complete, I may make several and use them to make a wreath. I have a ribbon bow that is gingerbread men. Otherwise, they will make lovely ornaments.
Once I'm buying yarn again (which will be late October at the earliest), I may try the Ginny Gingerbread Doll in the Crochet World December 2008 magazine.
Looks like this will be fun! I can't wait to see the gingerbread houses. Those will be beautiful!
Croshay - I love those gingerbread heads. I am definitely going to make a bunch of those !
Colleen- The Amigurumi pieces look like fun! I'm printing those instructions as well.
Keep the good ideas coming !
Did you notice that the one on Maggie's site is a Carolyn Christmas as well? Gourmet Crochet!
I went back and forth about 15 times trying to figure that one out. Thanks for clearing it up! (I'm a diz lately).
Yikes, now I have to go out and buy the Crochet Today issue w/the Gingerbread House pattern! :lol I LOVE gingerbread houses. In fact, I collect anything gingerbread related. My grandma passed on her 'secret cookie house' technique many years ago but I have since converted the houses to gingerbread. I have too many projects going right now otherwise I'd join in on the fun. But I'll definitely be watching the thread for my gingerbread fix!
