Crochet is IN this Spring!

Recommended Posts

I have read no less than three articles this month proclaiming that crochet is IN for the Spring 2010 fashion season.

Thai designer Koi Suwannagate is working with floral hand crochet and recycled cashmere: http://www.fashionwiredaily.com/first_word/fashion/article.weml?id=2750

The Mulleavy sisters are playing with crocheted dresses in hues of orange, black, and brown:

And apparently the stars of London Fashion Week were stiffened crochet dresses and skirts: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2009/0921/1224254909379.html

Ladies (and gentlemen), raise your hooks in celebration. We are officially trendsetters. :hook

This is great. I love that people are taking notice of our wonderful art. It gives me great joy that crocheting is alive and the joy of doing it is growing. I had my fears that it was a dying art but no more...:clap:clap:clap:crocheting:crocheting:clap:clap:clap

there are photos of spring 2010 Rodarte here http://nymag.com/fashion/fashionshows/2010/spring/main/newyork/womenrunway/rodarte/

(there are a lot of ads that pop up) it's all kind of a Mad Max look, there is some recognizable crochet in some of the outfits, sort of scraps of it. here they describe their vision for the collection, a little macabre in my book http://www.coutorture.com/5033803

actually, my first thought when I looked at the Rodarte photos was, this makes Cate's dress look good! :lol

and here http://www.vogue.co.uk/fashion/show.aspx/catwalk-report/id,8000

It's neat to see how high-fashion designers use crochet. hopefully it will spark people's interest in doing the craft themselves. :hook

Let's hope this combats that hideous crocheted dress Cate Blanchett wore to the film premier!

I'm all for that! :yes

Oh my, I do agree. :blush But we must remember that these fashion designers don't make clothes for real women. :heehee

Thanks for finding the links to the photos. :hug I'm a terrible surfer (rather have a hook in my hands than a keyboard!:hook), so I might never have found them.

As far as "real people" wearing them, I've always been a plus size, so even if I had the money and the inclination, they'd never be made for me -- and looking at these pics, that seems like a good thing! :lol

John's men look lost in their big-boy clothes. :lol

Here's another one with pictures of some obviously crocheted dresses. This is from Milan's Fashion Week: http://www.sfilate.com/fashion/article.cfm?id_articolo=18707

  • 1 year later...

I too have noticed this lately and have been wanting to get my hands on some fashionable, lacy, boho kind of patterns. I keep studying the clothes at the shops seeing if I can re-create to some degree >_>

Yay!! This is great -- and thanks for the links to the photos. I've been thinking that interest is on the rise. My local Michaels has more crochet books on the shelf than knitting books right now. Kind of surprised me when I realized that. I live in a college town, and knitting was very popular for several years with college students.

NOW, we just need to revive tatting!
