ORIGINAL POEMS/PROSE for crochet/knit gifts

Recommended Posts

A few months back several ville folk expressed a need for a thread that contained "sayings" etc, that members could use to include with their handmade crochet and knit items.

I had created a few that were made up for some of the members.

I had emailed Amy, and she agreed with stipulations. The items posted in this thread have to be all original. Nothing that was previously printed on websites, cards or books and/or copywritten.

Members who want to contribute Original work can type it here or link to their own blogs/urls. This site is dedicated to honoring all copywrite laws and this thread will be eliminated if the users cannot do the same.

I must also stress that anything posted here is for ville members and not to be sold under any condition. Write it, use it, share it, but do not sell it.

Additionally, please do not post thank yous here either. You can pm the author with your thank yous if you feel it necessary but it is not required. This thread is for the community as a whole and not for individual use only. Also comments or thanks can be post in this sister thread.

So use them if you wish to, but please contribute only your own writings.

I will be copying the poems of mine that had been previously posted in some other threads over the next few days. One at a time (with a title that describes what type of item it is for), so that folks don't have to read through the whole post to find a specific poem.

Please post yours in the same manner to save work and space.

I do hope you all will enjoy reading and using this thread for a long time :manyheart

Yarn is a diamond in the rough,

waiting just to shine.

This home made blanket is warm and tough,

and stands the test of time.

It should be used, played with and washed

And soon you will see...

Why this Blanket was made for you,

with caring hands, from me...

BAA TO YOU

Time to cook and food is brewing

Baking, frying and sometimes stewing.

When pans are hot and hands could burn

To these sheep I hope you'll turn.

While the smell of cooking lingers,

They'll protect your tender fingers.

Their wool is thick, so nothing harms you,

These hand made sheep are sure to charm you.

Always ready from the start,

May they softly "BAA" into your heart.

This homemade gift is for all to see, just how much you mean to me.

A gift of caring, joy and more, is one not found in any store.

From my hands I give to you, a gift of love and friendship true.

Comfort to know that others care, and wisdom in the words they share.

This handmade gift stitched for you, holds a prayer of faith so true.

May angel wings from up above, Touch your heart with healing love.

Winds may blow and chills may bite.

But baby is warm and snuggled tight.

A homemade blanket for an infant dear.

Keeping baby cozy from year to year.

Each stitch a kiss, each row a song.

saying "Welcome home, where you belong."

From my hands, to your heart

With you in mind, from the very start...

This is to be added to a prayer shawl when it's given:

Heavenly Father,

Please keep ____________ in your grace.

Grant her the strength and endurance she

so desperately requires in her time of need.

Help her to cast her burdens upon you so that

she may walk in your peace and feel your love.

Calm her heart and ease her thoughts.

Help her to realize that she does indeed have the

strength to carry on through these trying times.

This I pray through Jesus Christ,

Amen.

This can also be added so that the person receiving it will understand it's purpose.

What is a Prayer Shawl?

A prayer shawl is a knitted or crocheted shawl that is made in prayerful meditation. It is given to those that are in need of being wrapped in prayer. It is a tangible reminder that you are not alone, that others care for you, pray for you and give thanks to God for you. It is a tangible reminder that you are always wrapped in God's Grace & Love. It can be a great comfort to those going through especially difficult times.

10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. Romans 12:10 NIV

13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb.14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Psalm 139:13-14 NIV

I always add care instructions to the items I make as gifts. I've found that people not use something if they don't know how to take care of it.

Care Instructions:

This prayer shawl is made with acrylic yarn for easy care.

Wash in cold or warm water,

Dry in dryer with fabric softener sheet.

You may also lay it out flat and block if preferred.

I posted this in the original thread and HappyOldCro asked me to post it here as well. Please use and enjoy!

Snugly wrapped and rock-a-byed,

This blanket hears your baby’s sighs

It’s warm embrace, soft comfort brings

And gives your baby sweet sweet dreams.

Every stitch was made with love

to cover your baby with homemade hugs.

There are a few variations I have done and here is one of them

Snugly wrapped and rock-a-byed,

This blanket comforts baby's cries

It's warm embrace, soft comfort brings

And gives your baby sweet, sweet dreams.

Every stitch was made with love

to wrap your baby in homemade hugs.

If you play with it, there are a few substitutions or changes that can be made to personalize it or make it sound more like you!

This poem is perfect to include with either a prayer shawl, blanket or even a scarf

Please use this ___ to help you through this hard time. I hope whenever you use this ___ you will feel the love I put into making it.

I know this must be a hard time

Having lost some one so near and dear

All though Earth is not as bright as when they were here

Heaven is a lot brighter with them there.

I was reminded of what was coming September 12th - International Crochet Day!!! So if you want to make a card or display a sign, here is a poem for you....

Grab your yarn and hook away

It's International Crochet Day.

Afghans, doilies, hats and more,

Wear them, show them, cover the floor.

Black and White, Red and Blue,

Orange, Purple and Turquoise too.

Every color and every shade,

Every piece you've ever made.

Break out the WIPs and brandish your hooks,

Don't forget those pattern books.

It's International Crochet Day

Hookers unite, it's time to play!!!

This was requested by a ville member. You can use the 3rd verse by itself for a small tag, or use all 3 verses for a card.

With the Holidays near you'll need a strong friend,

to help with the chores and bring grime to an end.

In the wink of an eye and with the flap of a wing,

your dishes will squeak and the glasses will sing.

Hand made with care and lots of good wishes,

This angel will help you to wash off your dishes.

This Ornament was made for you

A symbol of a friendship true.

Ornaments do more than glow

Making feelings ebb and flow.

So when you use it on a tree

Close your eyes and think of me.

I came up with this silly to attach to a scarf I just made....

It's cold out there, no neck should be bare.

Because I love you oh so lofty, I made for you this little softy.

Wrap it 'round as a nice warm hug, better than hot tea in your mug.

In every stitch are my thoughts of love for you, there's over 4400 of them (I counted, it's true!)

Very nice Masala, good job!!!

This one requested by Katy, but anyone can use it...

Made with yarn so soft and light,

Pretty colors warm and bright,

Flowers for a friendship true

A memory for me and you.

Memories we made to share

and follow us everywhere

Are woven within it's folds

Bound with the love it holds.

Bringing thoughts of days gone bye

and good times that swiftly fly,

But like our friendship, will never die....
