Can't stop crying - My WIPS and hooks/needles destroyed ...Pic of destroyer added - post 34

Recommended Posts

:cry:cry:cry I went to see a friend today and took along my project bag. In it was 4 skiens of knitpicks shimmer, 10 butterfly bookmarks, 3 varigated balls of thread, a crochet scarf pattern I was testing and the bamboo handspun I was using for it, 2 spools of Cebilia thread that I was making a knitted doily(Egeblad) with, and a baby sweater that I was making with some handspun alpaca. I also had a few softtouch hooks, my 3Jimbo hooks 4 sets of knitpicks Harmony circular knitting needles, and a few other notions in it.

Anyway.....I left the bag on the floor next to her couch while we went off to her kitchen for some ice tea. While we were sitting around and catching up with our lives (we hadn't seen each other for awhile), we failed to notice that her new puppy had broken out of his kennel . By the time we relaized he had gotton out (about 20 minutes later) it was too late. He destroyed almost everything in my bag.:eek:faint

All my Wips were destroyed, the yarn eaten or tangled everywhere, my hooks and needles chewed to pieces. :cry

My friend feels terrible and wants to replace everything but she also recently lost her job (like DH and I) and doesn't have the money to replace it right now. I don't blame her for it. It is just something that happened and I knw that when she can she will replace them. I know that maybe I should feel angry about what happened but I don't. I just feel like crying and have been all afternoon. :cry:cry:cry:cry:cry:cry

Has anything like this ever happend to you?

OH NO Tam, :hugs I had that happen with one of my tunisian hooks that was attached to a project the cat ate the tip off the hook after playing yarn hockey all afternoon and pulled out about 13 rows of afghan stich I had bits of hook and strings of yarn all over my house. If there is anything I can do to help let me know I have hooks needles floating all over my house.

Oh nooooooo! I sure would be crying!! :cry How horrible!

Maybe I can help. Was one of the harmony needle sets a size US4? I can send you mine. I don't really use them and I wouldn't mind sending them to a good home. I also have a Clover Softtouch G hook you could have. Please PM me if you can use them. I'd be happy to send them. Did Jimbo happen to survive? They're pretty much one of a kind and irreplaceable. :cry You poor kid. Many many hugs for you. :hug:hug:hug

How sweet of you to offer those to her. I to have offered my Jimbo hook to her and needles if she needs them. I will surely do what I can to help out. I don't have the knit picks but I have clover and Susan Bates bamboo needles. all sizes

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I will get over this and my things will get replaced eventually. It is just hard to believe it really happened. I do have extra sets of hooks I can use ( I think I have at least one in all sizes). The other things will get replaced as I can afford them. I just needed to get it out of my system. Thanks for listening.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has PM'd me or posted here and offered to send me replacements. I do appreciate the offers but in these hard times we all need to watch our cash and I don't want anyone running out and spending cash they don't have to spare. I do appreciate the thoughtfulness but please don't spend your money on me. You never know when you will need it and my things will get replaced eventually.

I'm so sorry, Tammy. I know what a diversion this wonderful hobby can be, especially when times are rough. To be sidelined like this is so unfortunate...I have you in my thoughts and prayers that things start to untangle for you soon :hug

oh sweetie............... I am so sorry!

Now I know you said you dont need anything ... but PLEASE if you find yourself in a spot where you are in need ... just ask! If I have learned anything here on the 'ville... these folks are the most giving people you will come across!

Oh... and I had an idea... keep an eye out on the PIF thread and the For Sale or Trade threads... you may find yourself lucky.

I know none of that will bring back what you had and were working on....... but it may help.

huge cyber hugs hon!

Ack that's terrible! I've had the cat sharpen their claws on something I had been commissioned to make and had to remake at my own expense, but to have THAT much of your goodies destroyed! ack!

I really hope the puppy is ok. This is not a good time for your friend to have pet bills- and our puppy eating something she shouldn't have has cost us over $2500 in vet bills- 2 surgeries and then repeated visits for a bacterial infection she picked up in the hospital (specialists, dermatologists...) My husband has been out of work, too- and my teenage daughter has been the one working to pay the vet bill- and we STILL owe about $400 of it. So, really hope the puppy has no ill effects from this- as it is heartbreaking along with being pocket-book breaking!

Tammy,

I am really sorry to hear of your loses, but don't take this the wrong way.... Thank you! You see we are getting a puppy in September and I am forever leaving stuff all over the house. DH is always complaining about the rooms full of sewing notions in the kitchen and crochet yarn in the living room. I never thought about a puppy chewing on my yarn. I haven't had a puppy in the house in years. So your mishap will benefit me. I got to start training myself to put thing away for the Puppy's sake.

i am so sorry this happened to you...my dh and ds think i am nuts because i take my crochet hooks and a work bag of yarn and patterns with me everywhere almost...i cant leave them at home for fear that my dhs dog will do the same...i hope that your friend can forgive herself because it was not on purpose. we believe in paying it forward here..never know when you might need help yourself..

I'm so sorry! That's always been my nightmare, as I have two inquisitive and indiscriminating eaters for pets.

PM me if you need more hooks...seriously, I did an inventory for that section on Ravelry where you put in all your hooks and needles and I have a TON of crochet hooks. I'm sure I have something to spare in whatever size you need. I also have some Red Heart that I could part with if you need it.

I'm very sorry to hear this happened to you. I would be crying too. You lost some really nice yarn and I don't have anything like that in my stash, but I would be glad to send you some RH if you use that for anything.

:eek What an awful thing to happen! :hug I am so sorry. I would be in tears too.

Bless you for not getting mad at your friend or her puppy. Losing something so precious to you, along with WIP's that you can't place a dollar value on is heartbreaking & it is so easy to get angry at others or yourself when you try to use hindsight as to why something bad happened, & it doesn't change anything in an accident that could not be foreseen from the sound of it.

More :hug & I hope that it won't take long to get back to where you were on the newly started WIP's that you decide to begin anew on. Even if they aren't on special hooks or needles or special expensive yarn, it is your touch & creativity that makes it special.:yes

Tammy! Oh, no! :eek My heart aches for you, friend. What an awful thing to have happen! I wish I could help you somehow. And you know the silly puppy was just playing in his eyes, yet he destroyed your work and your tools. I'm so sorry to hear this. So sorry...

:hug
