I am new to crochet. I am following a (single crochet) pattern that doesn't say "ch1" at the end of each row. So, I haven't. A long way into the pattern, one part of the toy now says "ch1" at the end of each row. General question - if I'm following a (standard) pattern, do I presume I chain 1 (if it's sc) at the beginning of each row, even when it's not stated? Specific question - should I have been "ch1" at the end of every row in the whole pattern?! If yes, why does it suddenly say "ch1" now?! Does that mean I should now ch2?! I'm confused and getting disheartened... This is the pattern, and it's the hood where "ch1" suddenly appears... https://artisticgaming.com/portfolio/final-fantasy-tonberry-pattern/ Thank you so much in advance!

Currently making a basic sweater with double crochets making up most of the pattern. I have read so many contradicting articles that say the turning chain for a DC row should either be 2 or 3 chains. I do not know which number of chains is best for my crocheting. Any tips? Thanks!

Hi, I'm new to crocheting and I'm trying out this baby blanket pattern. My pattern says at the end of row 1 to turn my work. And for the second row, "Row 2 – ch 1 {does not count as st}, 1 dc in first st, *skip 3 sts, 5 tr in next st {makes a shell}, skip 3 sts, 1 dc in next st; repeat from * to end". Does this mean I chain 4 for the treble, then an extra chain on top of that when beginning the next row? And when it says " 1 dc in the first stitch", does it mean the first stitch from the hook?

Good morning, I am new to crocheting and I am having a problem with keeping the turning chain straight. My project is a baby car seat blanket. It is a double crochet stitch edging, with a cross double crochet stitch pattern from one of the popular pattern books. In the picture of the finished piece, it is square and the very edge stitch/turning chain is as straight as the other stitches. My row end stitch, dbl ch st, is straight like it's supposed to be, but my turning chain is bent, which gives the piece a scalloped looking edge. How do I keep that turning chain straight? I appreciate your talent and help. Vicki
